    Purpose The current study aims to examine the effects of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) on the microRNA (miRNA) expression profile in the kidney tissues of rats. Methods Wistar rats were randomly divided into three equal experiment groups the AGE group, the RSA group, and the control group. The rats in the AGE group and the RSA group were administered with advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and rat serum albumin (RSA) via the tail vein, respectively, whereas the control group received PBS. Total RNA was prepared from the rat kidney tissues, and the miRNA expression profiles in different experiment groups were compared by microarray analysis. The expression levels of selected differential miRNAs were verified by RT-qPCR. Target gene prediction was conducted using algorithms such as TargetScan, miRanda, and PICTar. Functional analysis was performed to determine the putative biological roles of the validated miRNAs. Results The microarray study revealed 451 upregulated and 320 downregulated miRNAs in the AGE group compared with the RSA group (p less then 0.05). Seven miRNAs, including miR-21-5p, miR-92b-3p, miR-140-3p, miR-196a-5p, miR-181b-5p, miR-186-5p, and miR-192-5p, were screened and verified using RT-qPCR, of which, the change of miR-92b-3p was the most obvious according to the miRNA expression different multiple and p less then 0.05). Copyright © 2020 Ruo-Lan Li et al.Acori Tatarinowii Rhizome (ATR, the dried rhizome of Acorus tatarinowii Schott), a well-recognized traditional Chinese herbal medicine, is prescribed to treat neurological disorders. The essential oil is considered as the active fraction of ATR, and the neuroprotection of ATR essential oil (ATEO) is proven, including the protection against oxidative stress. However, the cellular mechanism of ATEO against oxidative stress has not been fully illustrated. In this study, to investigate the cellular mechanism of ATEO, the cytoprotective effect of ATEO against H2O2-induced injury was revealed in PC12 cells. ATEO treatment increased the viability of cells affected by H2O2-mediated injury, inhibited reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation, and induced the expression of several antioxidant proteins (SODs, GPx, and UCPs). The cytoprotective effect of ATEO was related to upregulation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha (PGC-1α) expression, which was counteracted by PGC-1α specific knockdown. Using inhibitor of protein kinase A (PKA), we found that cAMP-response element binding protein (CREB) activation was involved in ATEO-induced PGC-1α expression. Taken together, we suggest that ATEO effectively prevents H2O2-induced cell injury possibly through the activation of CREB/PGC-1α signaling in PC12 cells. The results provide a molecular insight into the effect of ATEO on cytoprotection against oxidative stress. Methods Randomized controlled trials were electronically retrieved from PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of science, CBM, CNKI, Wanfang, and Weipu database. In addition, some related papers were manually checked. All papers were assessed according to the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions, and the effective data were analyzed by Revman 5.3 Software. Results 11 randomized control trials involving 1068 patients were included. Results of meta-analysis showed that E2 (estrogen), the total therapeutic effective rate of the group of Kuntai capsule, and hormone were higher than hormone only. The LH (luteinizing hormone), FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone), and Kupperman score of the group of Kuntai capsule and Climen were lower than Climen only. Conclusion Available evidence shows that Kuntai capsule with Climen is more effective than Climen in the therapy of premature ovarian failure. Nowadays, the quality of the research studies is low. More effective therapy is needed for treating sepsis. Acupuncture has been used for various diseases, including severe infection, in China for more than 2,000 years. Previous studies reported that acupuncture at Zusanli (ST36) might be effective in treating sepsis, but the efficacy and the quality of evidence remain unclear since there is no systematic review on acupuncture at ST36 for sepsis. Methods Seven databases were searched from the inception of each database up to May 2019. Ultimately, 54 studies using acupuncture at ST36 for the treatment of experimental sepsis were identified in both English and Chinese literature with systematic review procedures. Results Acupuncture might be useful in reducing injuries induced by sepsis in cardiac, lung, kidney, liver, gastrointestinal tract, and immune system. Its potential mechanisms for antisepsis might include reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, improving microcirculatory disturbance, and maintaining the immune balance mediated by dopamine. However, the positive findings should be interpreted with caution due to poor methodological quality and publication bias. Conclusion Acupuncture at ST36 might be a promising complementary strategy for controlling sepsis inflammation, yet further studies are needed. However, the mechanism underlying these processes is poorly understood. This study was designed to examine the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) at gastric back-shu (BL21) and front-mu (RN12) acupoints on gastric motility in functional dyspepsia (FD) rats and to investigate the mechanisms of its effects on the glutamatergic system in the hippocampus. We found that EA at RN12 or BL21 enhanced gastric motility in FD rats, whereas EA at the combination of RN12 and BL21 showed an additional effect. Microdialysis combined with HPLC showed that EA reduced the glutamate content in the hippocampus, and the NMDAR-NO-cGMP signalling pathway was downregulated, as determined by Western blot assays, in FD rats. In addition, we found that decreased gastric motility was significantly restored by the hippocampal infusion of an NMDAR, nNOS, or sGC antagonist. Interestingly, EA had no further effects on gastric motility in the presence of these antagonists in FD rats. Taken together, these results suggest that the hippocampal glutamatergic system is involved in the regulation of gastric motility by EA at RN12 and BL21. Based on dozens of classic and commonly used TCM herbs with recognized medicinal properties, the present study just aimed to investigate the feasibility and reliability of medicinal property discriminant by using 1H-NMR spectrometry, which provided a mass of spectral data showing holistic chemical profile for multivariate analysis and data mining, including principal component analysis (PCA), Fisher linear discriminant analysis (FLDA), and canonical discriminant analysis (CDA). By using FLDA for two-class recognition, a large majority of test herbs (59/61) were properly discriminated as cold or hot group, and the only two exceptions were Chuanbeimu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus) and Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex), suggesting that medicinal properties interrelate with flavor and body tropism, and all these factors together bring up medicinal property and efficacy. While by performing CDA, 98.4% of the original grouped herbs and 77.0% of the leave-one-out cross-validated grouped cases were correctly classified. The findings demonstrated that discriminant analysis based on holistic chemical profiling data by 1H-NMR spectrometry may provide a powerful alternative to have a deeper understanding of TCM medicinal property.
