Without a sufficient, up-to-date understanding of the roles of basic obesogenic environmental factors in obesity, the uncertainties will propagate and lead to more uncertainties in the association between indicators and obesity.With superior optical properties, high flexibility in engineering its material properties, and strong capability for large-scale on-chip integration, graphene oxide (GO) is an attractive solution for on-chip integration of 2D materials to implement functional integrated photonic devices capable of new features. Over the past decade, integrated GO photonics, representing an innovative merging of integrated photonic devices and thin GO films, has experienced significant development, leading to a surge in many applications covering almost every field of optical sciences such as photovoltaics, optical imaging, sensing, nonlinear optics, and light emitting. This paper reviews the recent advances in this emerging field, providing an overview of the optical properties of GO as well as methods for the on-chip integration of GO. The main achievements made in GO hybrid integrated photonic devices for diverse applications are summarized. The open challenges as well as the potential for future improvement are also discussed.To assess the current dynamics of an epidemic, it is central to collect information on the daily number of newly diseased cases. This is especially important in real-time surveillance, where the aim is to gain situational awareness, for example, if cases are currently increasing or decreasing. Reporting delays between disease onset and case reporting hamper our ability to understand the dynamics of an epidemic close to now when looking at the number of daily reported cases only. Nowcasting can be used to adjust daily case counts for occurred-but-not-yet-reported events. Here, we present a novel application of nowcasting to data on the current COVID-19 pandemic in Bavaria. It is based on a hierarchical Bayesian model that considers changes in the reporting delay distribution over time and associated with the weekday of reporting. Furthermore, we present a way to estimate the effective time-varying case reproduction number R e ( t ) based on predictions of the nowcast. The approaches are based on previously published work, that we considerably extended and adapted to the current task of nowcasting COVID-19 cases. We provide methodological details of the developed approach, illustrate results based on data of the current pandemic, and evaluate the model based on synthetic and retrospective data on COVID-19 in Bavaria. Results of our nowcasting are reported to the Bavarian health authority and published on a webpage on a daily basis (https//corona.stat.uni-muenchen.de/). Code and synthetic data for the analysis are available from https//github.com/FelixGuenther/nc_covid19_bavaria and can be used for adaption of our approach to different data.A prevalent model of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) pathogenesis postulates the generation of neurotoxic fragments derived from the amyloid precursor protein (APP) after its internalization to endocytic compartments. The molecular pathways that regulate APP internalization and intracellular trafficking in neurons are incompletely understood. Here, we report that 5xFAD mice, an animal model of AD, expressing signaling-deficient variants of the p75 neurotrophin receptor (p75NTR ) show greater neuroprotection from AD neuropathology than animals lacking this receptor. p75NTR knock-in mice lacking the death domain or transmembrane Cys259 showed lower levels of Aβ species, amyloid plaque burden, gliosis, mitochondrial stress, and neurite dystrophy than global knock-outs. Strikingly, long-term synaptic plasticity and memory, which are completely disrupted in 5xFAD mice, were fully recovered in the knock-in mice. Mechanistically, we found that p75NTR interacts with APP at the plasma membrane and regulates its internalization and intracellular trafficking in hippocampal neurons. Inactive p75NTR variants internalized considerably slower than wild-type p75NTR and showed increased association with the recycling pathway, thereby reducing APP internalization and co-localization with BACE1, the critical protease for generation of neurotoxic APP fragments, favoring non-amyloidogenic APP cleavage. These results reveal a novel pathway that directly and specifically regulates APP internalization, amyloidogenic processing, and disease progression, and suggest that inhibitors targeting the p75NTR transmembrane domain may be an effective therapeutic strategy in AD.Design, synthesis, and applications of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are among the most salient fields of research in modern inorganic and materials chemistry. As the structure and physical properties of MOFs are mostly dependent on the organic linkers or ligands, the choice of ligand system is of utmost importance in the design of MOFs. One such crucial organic linker/ligand is terpyridine (tpy), which can adopt various coordination modes to generate an enormous number of metal-organic frameworks. These frameworks generally carry physicochemical characteristics induced by the π-electron-rich (basically N-electron-rich moiety) terpyridines. In this minireview, the construction of 3D MOFs associated with symmetrical terpyridines is discussed. These ligands can be easily derivatized at the lateral phenyl (4′-phenyl) position and incorporate additional organic functionalities. These functionalities lead to some different binding modes and form higher dimensional (3D) frameworks. Therefore, these 3D MOFs can carry multiple features along with the characteristics of terpyridines. Some properties of these MOFs, like photophysical, chemical selectivity, photocatalytic degradation, proton conductivity, and magnetism, etc. have also been discussed and correlated with their frameworks.
Cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV) is an important cause of late mortality after heart transplantation, which may be influenced by preexisting coronary disease (CAD) in the donor heart.
The aim of this study was to verify whether CAD in the donor heart had any influence on survival, cardiac-related adverse events (CRAEs), and coronary disease progression after transplantation. Donor coronary angiography performed in 289 hearts showed absence of CAD in 232 (no-CAD group) and moderate (≤50%) stenoses (CAD group) in 57. The 2 groups were compared for survival, freedom from CRAEs, and development of grade≥2 CAV after transplantation.
Of 30-day mortality and postoperative complication rate was similar as mean follow-up (76±56 and 75±55months) for no-CAD and CAD (P=0.8). Ten-year actuarial survival was 58±4% and 62±7% for no-CAD and CAD (P=0.4). Ten-year freedom from grade≥2 CAV and from CRAEs was 81±4% and 66±5% vs 75±8% and 67±9% in no-CAD and CAD (P=0.9 and 0.9, respectively).
Donor hearts with moderate CAD did not affect survival, freedom from CRAEs and did not accelerate development of high-grade CAV after transplantation supporting the use of such grafts to expand the donor pool. Routine use of coronary angiography in donor selection appears justified.

Little is known about people who have been exposed to a suicide attempt by someone they know. The purpose of this study was to examine how many people have been exposed to a suicide attempt by someone they knew and whether the exposure was associated with general well-being and suicidal ideation.
A population-based online survey was conducted during 2019 in Denmark (n=6,191). The associations between exposures to suicide attempt and general well-being (WHO-5) and suicidal ideation (Suicidal Ideation Attributes Scale) were examined using linear regression analyses.
Overall, 24.6% reported having experienced a suicide attempt by someone they knew. Of those, 46.5% had experienced a suicide attempt of a close relation and this group reported having been more affected by the event. Those exposed scored lower on general well-being (b -3.0; 95% CI -4.2 to -1.8; p>0.001) and higher on suicidal ideation (b 1.6; 95% CI 1.3 – 1.9; p=0.001) than those not exposed. Half of the exposed reported not having received sufficient support after the event.

To investigate whether the result of the 1-mg dexamethasone suppression test can predict the improvement of comorbidities after adrenalectomy in patients with subclinical Cushing syndrome.
This retrospective study included 117 subclinical Cushing syndrome patients who underwent adrenalectomy. The numbers of prescribed drugs for metabolic comorbidities and the clinical variables at diagnosis were compared with those at the follow up. Patients were classified into subgroups according to the result of the 1-mg dexamethasone suppression test.
Significant improvements in blood pressure, serum cholesterol and body mass index were observed. Furthermore, a significant improvement in glycated hemoglobin was observed in patients with diabetes mellitus. These improvements led to a discontinuation or reduction of prescribed drugs after surgery. In addition, the greatest reduction of prescribed drugs was observed in patients whose serum cortisol levels were between 1.8 and 3.0µg/dL after the 1-mg dexamethasone suppression test.
The result of the 1-mg dexamethasone suppression test can be a useful factor predicting the improvement of comorbidities after adrenalectomy. Current data might give us a new insight into the decision-making for the treatment of subclinical Cushing syndrome.

Current data might give us a new insight into the decision-making for the treatment of subclinical Cushing syndrome.In the literature, many cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) positive pregnancies have been observed, mostly with mild findings, but there is limited evidence about perinatal transition and early COVID-19 positive newborns. In this case, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction results were studied from samples obtained from the placenta, amniotic fluid, cord blood and postoperative breast milk – that were obtained while avoiding contamination and preserved appropriately – of a cesarean section performed under anesthesia on a woman with previous cesarean section and gestational diabetes mellitus history. This patient who presented to our emergency gynecology clinic with membrane rupture was infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 two weeks before delivery but was not treated as the disease was asymptomatic. In addition, literature data in line with this topic were evaluated to demonstrate that there was generally no perinatal transmission over 34 weeks of gestation.
