    In this communication, we feature the synthesis and in-depth characterization of a series of silver(I) complexes obtained from the complexation of quinolin-4-yl Schiff base ligands ((E)-2-((quinolin-4-ylmethylene)amino)phenol La, 2-(quinolin-4-yl)benzo[d]thiazole Lb, (E)-N-(2-fluorophenyl)-1-(quinolin-4-yl)methanimine Lc, (E)-N-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-(quinolin-4-yl)methanimine Ld, (E)-1-(quinolin-4-yl)-N-(p-tolyl)methanimine Le, (E)-1-(quinolin-4-yl)-N-(thiophen-2-ylmethyl)methanimine Lf) and three different silver(I) anions (nitrate, perchlorate and triflate). Structurally, the complexes adopted different coordination geometries, which included distorted linear or distorted tetrahedral geometry. The complexes were evaluated in vitro for their potential antibacterial and antioxidant activities. In addition, their interactions with calf thymus-DNA (CT-DNA) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) were evaluated. All the complexes had a wide spectrum of effective antibacterial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacterial and good antioxidant properties. The interactions of the complexes with CT-DNA and BSA were observed to occur either through intercalation or through a minor groove binder, while the interaction of the complexes with BSA reveals that some of the complexes can strongly quench the fluorescence of BSA through the static mechanism. The molecular docking studies of the complexes were also done to further elucidate the modes of interaction with CT-DNA and BSA.Ensuring and maintaining adequate tissue oxygenation at the microcirculatory level might be considered the holy grail of optimal hemodynamic patient management. However, in clinical practice we usually focus on macro-hemodynamic variables such as blood pressure, heart rate, and sometimes cardiac output. Other macro-hemodynamic variables like pulse pressure or stroke volume variation are additionally used as markers of fluid responsiveness. In recent years, an increasing number of technological devices assessing tissue oxygenation or microcirculatory blood flow have been developed and validated, and some of them have already been incorporated into clinical practice. In this review, we will summarize recent research findings on this topic as published in the last 2 years in the Journal of Clinical Monitoring and Computing (JCMC). While some techniques are already currently used as routine monitoring (e.g. cerebral oxygenation using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS)), others still have to find their way into clinical practice. Therefore, further research is needed, particularly regarding outcome measures and cost-effectiveness, since introducing new technology is always expensive and should be balanced by downstream savings. The JCMC is glad to provide a platform for such research.Are oral sentences accompanied by pictures easier to understand than written sentences accompanied by the same pictures? This question-intensely discussed for more than two decades in educational, psychological, and psycholinguistic research in terms of modality effect in multimedia learning, split-attention effect, or visuospatial load effect-was examined by means of an online sentence-picture comparison task, with participants reading or listening to short sentences accompanied by pictures. Sentences and pictures referred to a conceptually and linguistically basic universe that was constructed from a limited number of familiar objects and characteristics. Mixed repeated-measures ANOVAs were calculated separately for simultaneously and sequentially presented sentence-picture versions, with modality (oral, written), picture complexity (complex, simple), and sentence-picture compatibility (compatible, incompatible) as within-subject factors, and age (6th-graders, adults) as between-subjects factor. The experiment was based on reaction time and acuity measures. The online sentence-picture comparison task requires participants to take note of both components (verbal and pictorial information). The presence of two age groups made it possible to examine modality effects from a developmental point of view by suggesting that learners’ written comprehension and monitoring skills at some point equal and then surpass their oral comprehension and monitoring skills. The experiment showed the necessity to interpret modality main effects in the context of their two-way and three-way interactions with other variables since modality effects taken alone do not tell the whole story. The concepts of split attention, temporal contiguity, and element interactivity were discussed in this context.The impact of peer microaggressions and the child-teacher relationship on the social skills of children with sexual minority parents has received little attention. The current study used a mixed-method, multi-informant, two-wave longitudinal design to address this research gap. Thirty-seven children of lesbian mothers through donor insemination and 33 children of gay fathers though surrogacy (wave 1 Mage = 8.3 years, SD = 1.6; 51.4% female; wave 2 Mage = 9.9 years, SD = 1.7), all school-aged and residing in Italy, participated together with their 140 parents and 55 teachers. Approximately two-thirds of the children reported at least one peer microaggression and, on average, microaggressions were of a low intensity. Child-teacher relationships were of high quality (i.e., characterized by high safe haven-seeking and secure base use, and low conflict). Both parents and teachers reported high levels of child social skills. However, more intense W1 microaggressions predicted lower W2 social skills among children reporting a lower W1 child-teacher relationship quality, and greater W2 social skills among those reporting a higher W1 child-teacher relationship quality. These results support the child-teacher relationship as a potentially secure context in which children can „mentalize” negative experiences such as microaggressions and improve their social skills. In this vein, considering microaggression, attachment, and developmental intergroup theories, teachers must attune to the school experiences of children with sexual minority parents and cultivate caring classroom environments that are sensitive to family diversity.Transition to adulthood can be a challenging developmental task for adolescents with common mental health problems and is linked to adverse outcomes such as 'not in education, employment or training’ (NEET). This study investigated longitudinal associations between adolescent psychosocial factors (e.g., self-esteem, aspirations, bullying, physical activity) and later NEET status among individuals with common mental health problems (i.e., depression and anxiety). A secondary data analysis of the Next Steps cohort study was completed using waves 2 and 8. Psychosocial factors, mental health, and background characteristics were captured when participants were aged 15-16 years (wave 2) while still in compulsory education. The 12-item General Health Questionnaire was used to identify adolescents with common mental health problems. The study population consisted of 2224 participants (females 66.8%) of which 1473 (66.2%) were aged 15 years and 751 (33.8%) were aged 16 years in wave 2. The outcome was NEET status at ages 25-26 years (wave 8). The results showed that after adjusting for background characteristics, adolescent self-esteem, locus of control, bullying, physical activity, job aspirations, and attitudes to school predicted NEET status. Educational aspirations, substance use, and behavioural problems were not significantly associated with NEET status. These findings provide new insights into the role of adolescent psychosocial factors in the context of education and employment outcomes for youth at risk and highlight the necessity of targeted mental health support to improve life chances.

    To determine the application value of next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidies (PGT-A).

    We conducted a retrospective case-control study on a cohort of frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) cycles following preimplantation genetic testing for monogenic disorders (PGT-M) between 2014 and 2017. Cycles that produced live births or early miscarriages were divided into live birth group (n = 76) or miscarriage group (n = 19), respectively. The NGS-based aneuploidy screening was performed on the multiple displacement amplification (MDA) products of the embryonic trophectoderm biopsy samples that were cryopreserved following PGT-M.

    In the live birth group, 75% (57/76) embryos were euploid and 14.5% (11/76) were aneuploid. The remaining 10.5% (8/76) embryos were NGS-classified mosaic with the high- (≥ 50%) and low-level (< 50%) mosaicism rates at 7.9% (6/76) and 2.6% (2/76), respectively. In the miscarriage group, only 23.5% (4/17) embryos were aneuploid, while 58.8% (10/17) were euploid and 17.6% (3/17) were NGS-classified mosaic with the high- and low-level mosaicism rates at 11.8% (2/17) and 5.9% (1/17), respectively. For live birth and miscarriage groups, the transferable rate was 82.9% (63/76) and 70.6% (12/17), respectively, whereas the untransferable rate was 17.1% (13/76) and 29.4% (5/17), respectively.

    The aim of the current study was to comparatively assess the efficiency of three different adjunctive therapy options (cold atmospheric plasma, [CAP], photodynamic therapy [PDT] and chemical decontamination via 35% phosphoric acid gel [PAG]) on decontamination of titanium implant surfaces in-vitro.

    Implants were inserted in concavities of four mm in depth mimicking a bone defect at the implant recipient site. In each model, two implants were inserted in the fourth and one implant in the third quadrants. After contamination with E. faecalis, the first group has been treated with CAP for 3min, the second group with 35% PAG (and the third group with PDT. After treatment, quantification of bacterial colonization was assessed by quantification via colony forming units and qualitatively by fluorescence microscopy and scanning electron microscopy.

    CFU/ml, the CAP treated implants have showed the least microorganisms. The highest number of CFU was found after PDT with mean value ill an ongoing need to define the most appropriate adjunctive therapy method. Due to its antimicrobial effects, CAP combined with mechanical debridement could be a feasible treatment modality in the management of peri-implantitis.The Chinese hamster ovary cell line CHO is widely used for biopharmaceutical production. Genome editing makes it possible to improve the growth properties of cells, their auxotrophy, and the functioning of the apoptosis and autophagy induction systems. Simultaneous editing of multiple genes makes it possible to obtain a cell line with the required genotype faster than several consecutive rounds of genomic knockout, but the probability of success is lower. Simultaneous editing of the dhfr, glul, bak1, and bax genes in the CHO S cells genome yielded 24 clones with signs of auxotrophy for thymidine and glutamine. Five of them turned out to be dhfr+/-, all five contained a knockout of one or two glul alleles. In one clone, 7 out of 8 target alleles were inactivated by a frameshift, and the second dhfr allele was partially inactivated by insertion of the GAA triplet, which reduced the enzyme activity 2.5 times. The probability of simultaneous knockout of both dhfr alleles increased to 50% when the genome was edited with a pair of guide RNAs directed to one exon of the dhfr gene.
