    Emotional factors in linguistic-cultural mediation have attracted the attention of prior literature for a number of decades, both regarding the cognitive processes involved in language interpreting and the impact of stress and emotion on the performance of interpreters. However, research has not yet been replicated in the Arabic-Spanish pair, despite it being one of the combinations most requested by public services in Spain and Europe.

    An exploratory study conducted by an anonymous online 17-item survey was carried out in order to discover the perception of Arabic-Spanish interpreters in asylum and refugee settings about the emotional impact of their job. Out of 30 contacted, 23 active interpreters completed the survey.

    The answers showed that all of the interpreters had been exposed to situations that had emotionally impacted them. Triggering situations and a list of negative emotions were collected.

    Direct and indirect implications of the referred emotional episodes and their consequences on the performance of the interpreters were analysed and discussed.

This cell passaging (or splitting) to fresh culture vessels/flasks conventionally requires harsh trypsinization, which can be omitted by using the „trans-ferry-beads” presented here. When added to different pre-cultivated adherent cell lines, the beads are efficiently boarded by cells as passengers and can be easily transferred afterward for the embarkment of novel flasks. After this procedure, cells are perfectly viable and show normal growth behavior. Thus, the trans-ferry-beads not only may become extremely affordable as a final product but also may generally replace trypsinization in conventional cell culture, thereby opening new routes for the establishment of optimized and resource-efficient workflows in biological and medical cell culture laboratories.The global pandemic caused by COVID-19 has led to changes in many areas, with educational scenarios being affected. In this sense, university education has undergone significant changes owing to the impossibility of following the fully face-to-face mode of teaching. Given this situation, the general objective of this study is to analyze the university educational scenario in the context of COVID-19 and, more specifically, to identify the difficulties perceived by students. Using a mixed quantitative-qualitative methodological approach, an ad hoc questionnaire was designed, and data were collected from a sample of 238 students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching during the 2020/2021 academic year. The results obtained have shown that students have experienced numerous difficulties in adapting to the hybrid teaching model. In this sense, it is worth highlighting the decrease in motivation, the feeling of loneliness, technical connection problems, and less interaction with the teaching staff and other students. The degree of satisfaction with the teaching received is also moderate. As a conclusion, it can be stated that the difficulties identified recommend the introduction of actions to improve the application of the teaching model implemented in favor of university excellence.

Moreover, the disease is not contagious in most infected people; it is only highly contagious in some infected people, thereby forming clusters. Due to the large number of virus particles that are shed prior to the onset of symptoms of the disease, retrospective surveys are important. Appropriate personal protective equipment against corona vortices is also important in clinical practice. Although polymerase chain reaction tests are useful for confirming infection in suspected individuals, their reliability is questionable. In addition, concerns regarding long-term sequelae have been reported.

However, the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines frequently cause systemic side effects shortly after the injection, such as fever, headache and generalized fatigue. In our survey, after receiving the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, 80% developed fever, 62% headache and 69% generalized fatigue. Among people who required antipyretics, the average durations of fever and headache were significantly shorter in those who took non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin, loxoprofen and ibuprofen, than those who took acetaminophen. In our patch-clamp studies, NSAIDs effectively suppressed the delayed rectifier K+-channel (Kv1.3) currents in T-lymphocytes and thus exerted immunosuppressive effects. Because of this pharmacological property, the use of NSAIDs should be more effective in reducing the vaccine-induced systemic side effects that are caused primarily by the enhanced cellular immunity.Ceramides play a critical role in the skin barrier. We previously demonstrated that electrolytic-reduction ion water (ERI) improves skin integrity and enhances the protective barrier function of the epidermis. Here, we first examine the effect of ERI on the expression of ceramide synthesis-related enzymes in human skin keratinocytes. The expression of enzymes involved in the elongation of very-long-chain fatty acids protein 4 (ELOVL4) was increased after treatment with ERI-containing media. The expression of ceramide synthase 3 (CerS3), which binds ultra-long-chain fatty acids to sphingosine to produce ceramides found in the skin, was also increased. Subsequently, we examined the expression of ceramides in keratinocytes treated with ERI using thin-layer chromatography. The results showed that ERI increased the ceramide content, and these ceramides were more hydrophobic than those extracted from untreated keratinocytes. These results suggest that ERI enhances the expression of enzymes involved in the synthesis of ceramides containing ultra-long-chain fatty acid residues, which have a protective function in the skin.

    Frailty is prevalent in patients with heart failure (HF) and associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Hence, there has been increased interest in the reversibility of frailty following treatment with medication or surgery. This systematic review aimed to assess the reversibility of frailty in patients with HF before and after surgical interventions aimed at treating the underlying cause of HF. It also aimed to assess the efficacy of cardiac rehabilitation and prehabilitation in reversing or preventing frailty in patients with HF.Methods and ResultsSearches of PubMed, MEDLINE and Academic Search Ultimate identified studies with HF patients undergoing interventions to reverse frailty. Titles, abstracts and full texts were screened for eligibility based on the PRISMA guidelines and using predefined inclusion/exclusion criteria in relation to participants, intervention, control, outcome and study design. In total, 14 studies were included 3 assessed the effect of surgery, 7 assessed the effect of rehabilitation programs, 2 assessed the effect of a prehabilitation program and 2 assessed the effect of program interruptions on HF patients.

    Overall, it was found that frailty is at least partially reversible and potentially preventable in patients with HF. Interruption of rehabilitation programs resulted in deterioration of the frailty status. Future research should focus on the role of prehabilitation in mitigating frailty prior to surgical intervention.

    The efficacy of ablation targeting low-voltage areas (LVAs) is controversial, although LVA presence is well known to be associated with atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after ablation. AF substrate may not localize within LVAs.Methods and ResultsThis observational study enrolled 405 consecutive patients who underwent an initial AF ablation procedure. The left atrial (LA) voltage map was obtained after pulmonary vein isolation. LVAs were defined as areas with voltage <0.5 mV. To estimate whole LA electrophysiological degeneration, mean regional voltage at each of the 6 regions and LA total conduction velocity were measured. LVAs existed in 143 of 405 (35.3%) patients. Patients with LVAs demonstrated lower mean regional voltages throughout all 6 regions compared to those without LVAs (1.3 [1.8, 0.8] vs. 0.6 [1.0, 0.2] mV for the anterior wall, P<0.001). In contrast, LA conduction velocity was lower in patients with LVAs than in those without (0.89 [1.01, 0.74] vs. 0.93 [1.03, 0.87] m/s, P<0.001). Multivariate analysis revealed that low LA total conduction velocity and a higher number of regions with mean voltage reduction were independently associated with AF recurrence, although LVA presence was not.
