001. There was significant positive correlation between serum albumin and serum calcium (r=0.0.420, p<0.001) as well as serum sodium (r=0.310, p<0.001) in the study population. Similarly, the correlation between serum calcium and serum sodium was positive and significant (r=0.200, p=0.014). In contrast, the correlation between serum potassium and serum albumin and that between serum potassium and serum calcium was not significant.
tuberculosis with or without anti-tuberculous medications was associated with significant reduction in serum albumin, serum sodium and serum calcium in this study.

This rapid review was aimed at synthesizing evidence on the long-term effects of the SARS-CoV-2 infection among survivors. We considered both randomised controlled trials and non-randomised studies eligible for inclusion in this review. The following databases were searched PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane library, Google Scholar, and the World Health Organization (WHO) COVID-19 database. The reference lists of all the included studies were also searched. Two authors independently screened the search outputs and reviewed full texts of potentially eligible articles. Data extraction was done by one author and checked by a second author. A meta-analysis was not conducted due to heterogeneity among the included studies. Results are presented narratively. Eleven studies met our inclusion criteria. All these studies were conducted in high-income countries. Study findings demonstrate that COVID-19 survivors can experience persistent symptoms after recovering from their initial illness, especially among previously hospitalized persons. The majority of symptoms reported were fatigue, shortness of breath, cough, and sleep disorders. Mental conditions, such as depression and anxiety disorders, were also reported. In conclusion, this study showed that COVID-19 survivors can experience persistent symptoms after recovering from their initial illness. Therefore, there is a need for a long-term follow-up of COVID-19 patients and rehabilitation services for survivors. More research is needed in this area, especially in Africa.Anorectal malformations (ARM) are developmental anomalies of the genitor anal elements, they represent a wide range of anomalies. An early diagnosis allows a better management as it reduces mortality associated with ARM, especially in developing countries. A prospective cross-sectional study has been carried, including patients from 0 to one year, admitted in our service for ARM. Twenty-four (24) patients have been considered. The median age was 2 days, the sex ratio 1/3 for female. Intestinal occlusions were the most frequent circumstances of diagnosis (50%), low ARMs were the most frequent, diagnosed in 11 patients (45.7%) of which 10 did not have any fistula. The most common associated malformation was intestinal atresia (3 patients). Anoplasty was done using abdominoperineal pull-through associated to anal dilatations in 13 patients (54.1%). Six patients died from unknown etiology and 6 were lost from the follow-up. Concerning the functional outcome, 12 of the 24 patients concerned by the study attended review and 3 of them presented signs of fecal incontinence, 9 of them were continents among whom 8 were diagnosed low ARM and one with high ARM. ARMs are encountered in our environment, nonetheless, the diagnosis is still made most of the time, during an intestinal occlusion. The mortality rate is still high and measures should be taken to allow long-term reviews, which will surely reduce the number of lost patients.
ciprofloxacin is a second-generation fluoroquinolone, which has been used as one of the top three antibacterial agents prescribed in Ethiopia. However, its use has deviated from the recommendation of standard treatment guidelines resulting in a gradual increase in antimicrobial resistance. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the annual use of ciprofloxacin in 2016 based on the standard Ethiopian treatment and World Health Organization guidelines, in governmental hospitals, in Eastern Ethiopia from 1
May to 30
June 2018.
a hospital-based retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted to evaluate medical records of patients who had taken ciprofloxacin in 2016. The total sample size (n=522) was proportionally allocated to each hospital based on the respective consumption data. A simple random sampling method was employed to collect the required sample. The collected data were entered into SPSS version 21 and analyzed using descriptive analysis.
in this study, 522 medical records were reviewed, wrd of patients, with the wrong duration being the main reason for overall inappropriate utilization. This trend may potentially impose a high risk to the emergence of drug-resistant microorganisms. To this end, further studies addressing the susceptibility pattern of bacterial isolates towards ciprofloxacin should be carried out.
ciprofloxacin was primarily indicated for urinary tract infections. The drug was appropriately used in less than one-third of patients, with the wrong duration being the main reason for overall inappropriate utilization. This trend may potentially impose a high risk to the emergence of drug-resistant microorganisms. To this end, further studies addressing the susceptibility pattern of bacterial isolates towards ciprofloxacin should be carried out.Fibromas are benign tumors of connective tissue common in the oral cavity but rare on hard palate. This paper reports on an asymptomatic, slowly growing mass on the hard palate of a 90-year-old lady, with a reported use of denture for two decades. The patient presented with a 2.2cm, smooth-surfaced, well-circumscribed nodule attached with a stalk to the palatal mucosa. After excision, the histopathological examination revealed a mass of fibrous connective tissue, covered by stratified squamous epithelium with focal low-medium grade hyperplasia and hyperkeratosis. These findings were consistent with irritation fibroma of hard palate, a rare entity, which should be considered as a possible diagnosis for tumors of the area by every physician. The exfoliation of layered materials into two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors creates new structural domains, for example, basal planes, defect-rich in-planes, and edge sites. These surface species affect the photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance, which in turn determines their applicability in solar energy conversion technologies. In this study, a custom-designed microdroplet cell-based spatially resolved PEC approach was employed to identify the structural parts and to measure the PEC activity of the mechanically exfoliated MoSe2 and WSe2 nanosheets for bulk, few-layer, and monolayer specimens. The PEC performance decreased with the decreasing thickness of nanoflakes, and the relative PEC activity (photo/total current) reduced by introducing more defects to the 2D flakes 1-3% loss was found for in-plane defects and 30-40% for edge defects. While edge sites act as charge carrier recombination centers, their electrocatalytic activity is higher than that of the basal planes. The comparison of PEC activity of micromechanically and liquid phase exfoliated bulk and few-layer MoSe2 and WSe2 flakes further confirmed that the PEC performance of 2D flakes decreases with an increasing number of edge sites.Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignancy that arises from the adrenal cortex and can be classified as either non-functioning or functioning. A patient with non-functioning ACC may present no specific symptoms. Imaging analysis can provide some information to a clinician who suspects ACC, such as tumor size, density, washout, necrosis, hemorrhage, and calcification. Histopathology is used to confirm and determine the origin of the malignancy and can provide relevant prognostic information. Microscopic findings can be used to obtain information such as the Weiss score, resection surface features, Ki-67 proliferative index, and the degree of capsular and vascular invasion. Surgery can be curative for localized tumors, and adjuvant therapy using mitotane and cytotoxic chemotherapy is often employed for advanced-stage tumors. We describe a case report of a 32-year-old man with a non-functioning ACC that highlights the importance of radiological and pathological features in the diagnosis of ACC and their use as prognostic factors.Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare, idiopathic, cystic disease that affects lungs of young women at childbearing age. Usually, LAM clinical manifestations are pneumothorax, progressive dyspnea and chylous pleural effusions. In many cases, due to unusual and nonspecific symptoms, LAM is mis-recognized and patients, who are affected by such disease, receive delayed diagnosis. This case report focuses on a 45-year-old woman patient with asymptomatic lymphangioleiomyomatosis who presented a big cyst which makes it looks like hydropneumothorax condition. Although chest radiograph and following CT scan has given an incidental diagnosis of right hydropneumothorax, treatment with drainages and video-assisted thorascopic surgery, instead, has allowed us to formulate correct diagnosis of cysts in LAM.We introduce wFLFM, an approach that enhances the resolution of Fourier light-field microscopy (FLFM) through a hybrid wide-field image. The system exploits the intrinsic compatibility of image formation between the on-axis FLFM elemental image and the wide-field image, allowing for minimal instrumental and computational complexity. The numerical and experimental results of wFLFM present a two- to three-fold improvement in the lateral resolution without compromising the 3D imaging capability in comparison with conventional FLFM.After completing the thio-substitution with Lawesson’s reagent, ethanol was found to be effective in the decomposition of the inherent stoichiometric six-membered-ring byproduct from the Lawesson’s reagent to a highly polarized diethyl thiophosphonate. The treatment significantly simplified the following chromatography purification of the desired thioamide in a small scale preparation. As scaling up the preparation of two pincer-type thioamides, we have successfully developed a convenient process with ethylene glycol to replace ethanol during the workup, including a traditional phase separation, extraction, and recrystallization. The newly developed chromatography-free procedure did not generate P-containing aqueous waste, and only organic effluents were discharged. It is believed that the optimized procedure offers the great opportunity of applying the Lawesson’s reagent for various thio-substitution reactions on a large scale. We herein report a method for the kinetic resolution of racemic 4-hydroxy[2.2]paracyclophane by means of a chiral isothiourea-catalyzed acylation with isobutyric anhydride. This protocol allows for a reasonable synthetically useful s-factor of 20 and provides a novel entry to obtain this interesting planar chiral motive in an enantioenriched manner.
