The Sino-Nasal Outcome Test-22 (SNOT-22) is the most commonly used disease-specific quality of life questionnaire in rhinology. The purpose of this prospective study was to translate and validate SNOT-22 into Finnish.

The validation process followed the guidelines proposed for cross-cultural adaptation of health-related measures of quality of life. The study consisted of three groups rhinologic out-patients (N = 96), FESS patients (N = 49) and healthy controls (N = 79). Out-patient and FESS groups completed the questionnaire twice (answers A and B), out-patients after two weeks and FESS patients after 3months. Validity, reliability and responsiveness were evaluated.

The mean SNOT-22 sum score of the out-patient questionnaires were 35.3 points (answer A) and 32.4 points (answer B). ICC in out-patient group was 0.879. For the FESS patients, the mean pre- and postoperative (answer A and B) SNOT-22 sum scores were 46.8 and 21.9 points, respectively (p < 0.0001). The mean SNOT-22 of healthy controls was 8.9 points. The out-patients (answer A) and healthy controls had statistically significant difference in SNOT-22 scores (p < 0.0001).

The results of our study show that the validated Finnish version of the SNOT-22 questionnaire demonstrates good validity, reliability and responsiveness.

RET activation in these tumors is caused by point mutations or gene rearrangements, resulting in constitutive activation of RET tyrosine kinase. Physiologically, RET is activated by glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) ligands that bind to coreceptor GDNF family receptor alphas (GFRαs), leading to RET dimerization. GDNF-GFRα1-RET signaling plays crucial roles in the development of the enteric nervous system, kidney and lower urinary tract as well as in spermatogenesis. Intracellular tyrosine phosphorylation in RET and recruitment of adaptor proteins to phosphotyrosines are essential for various biological functions. Significance of intracellular RET signaling pathways activated by GDNF is discussed and summarized in this review.

With the Act on Genetic Testing (GenDG), the German legislator has issued far-reaching regulations for human genetic services, including genetic counseling. This paper presents data on the use of human genetic counseling in the years before and after the entry into force of GenDG in order to provide an informed assessment of the possible effects of the law.

Over aperiod of 13years (2005 to 2017), the human genetic counseling services provided within the framework of the statutory health insurance and billable by EBM via the Kassenärztliche associations were recorded via adatabase query at the Central Institute of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (ZI-KBV) and via individual Kassenärztliche Vereinigungen Deutschlands. For the discussion of the observable development of using genetic counseling and possible future development, additional data on the referral behavior, the waiting times, processing time, and reasons for consultations were extracted from the GenBIn database.

y specialists other than obstetricians/gynecologists. Waiting times between 2011 and 2016/2017 have increased. While demand has been growing, the number of key service providers, the contracted medical specialists in human genetics, has remained almost constant. It is foreseeable that capacity limits will be reached if both trends continue.

This systematic review aims to synthesise the evidence on behavioural and attitudinal patterns as well as barriers and enablers in Filipino formal help-seeking.

Using PRISMA framework, 15 studies conducted in 7 countries on Filipino help-seeking were appraised through narrative synthesis.

Filipinos across the world have general reluctance and unfavourable attitude towards formal help-seeking despite high rates of psychological distress. They prefer seeking help from close family and friends. Barriers cited by Filipinos living in the Philippines include financial constraints and inaccessibility of services, whereas overseas Filipinos were hampered by immigration status, lack of health insurance, language difficulty, experience of discrimination and lack of acculturation to host culture. Both groups were hindered by self and social stigma attached to mental disorder, and by concern for loss of face, sense of shame, and adherence to Asian values of conformity to norms where mental illness is considered unaominent facilitators.Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) increases coronary artery disease (CAD) risk. In this study, we used T2DM clinical variables to predict abnormality in thallium-201 myocardial perfusion scans (Th-201 scans). These clinical variables were summed stress score (SSS), summed rest score, and summed difference score (SDS), with data obtained from 368 male and 428 female participants with T2DM. Multiple linear regression results were as follows. In male participants, body mass index (BMI) and creatinine (Cr) were associated with SSS (β = 0.224, p  less then  0.001; β = 0.140, p = 0.022, respectively), and only BMI was associated with SDS (β = 0.174, p = 0.004). In female participants, BMI and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol level were associated with SSS (β = 0.240, p  less then  0.001; β =  - 0.120, p = 0.048, respectively), and only BMI was correlated with SDS (β = 0.123, p = 0.031). Our multivariate logistic regression indicated that in male and female participants, BMI was the only independent indicator of high SSS (SSS ≥ 9). In this study, we demonstrated that male patients have a higher SSS and SDS than female patients do in Th-201 scans for T2DM in a Chinese population. For male and female patients, BMI was the strongest predictor of abnormality in Th-201 scans. Our results can help clinicians identify patients with T2DM at high risk of CAD.

The COVID-19 pandemic outbreak has set the emergency services in developing countries on major alert, as the installed response capacities are easily overwhelmed by the constantly increasing high demand. The deficit of intensive care unit beds and ventilators in countries like Peru is forcing practitioners to seek preventive or early interventional strategies to prevent saturating these chronically neglected facilities.

A64-year-old patient is reported after presenting with COVID-19 pneumonia and rapidly progressing to deteriorated ventilatory function. Compassionate treatment with asingle 1‑Gy dose to the bilateral whole-lung volume was administered, with gradual daily improvement of ventilatory function and decrease in serum inflammatory markers and oxygen support needs, including intubation. No treatment-related toxicity developed. Procedures of transport, disinfection, and treatment planning and delivery are described.

Whole-lung low-dose radiotherapy seems to be apromising approach for avoiding or delaying invasive respiratory support. Delivered low doses are far from meeting toxicity ranges. On-going prospective trials will elucidate the effectiveness of this approach.

To assess immunohistochemical markers of the two, the sensitivity and specificity of cytokeratin 7 (CK7) and C-kit, as well as hepatocyte nuclear factor-1β (HNF-1β), were analyzed. Typical cases of ChRCC and RO at Severance Hospital between July 2014 and July 2018 were selected retrospectively. Among 44 cases, 17 were unanimously compatible with ChRCC, 16 were RO, and 11 cases were indeterminate. Samples from all selected cases were used for immunostaining with antibodies against CK7, C-kit, HNF-1β, and CD10. Immunostaining demonstrated complete loss of HNF-1β expression in 11 out of 17 (64.7%) ChRCC cases and a partial, but significant loss in > 50% of tumor cells in the remaining 6 cases (35.3%). In contrast, HNF-1β expression was preserved in tumor cells of RO cases. Fourteen of 17 ChRCC cases (82.4%) were diffusely positive for CK7, whereas cases of RO were focal positive or negative. C-kit staining did not show a significant difference between ChRCC and RO. Two of five ChRCC cases showing diffuse immunoreactivity for CD10 had poor prognoses of local invasion, distant metastasis, or death. Loss of HNF-1β expression is a useful marker with which to diagnose ChRCC, especially in cases with confusing histologic findings or equivocal CK7 staining. Additionally, CD10 staining in high-grade ChRCC aids in diagnosis and prediction of the clinical prognosis.

BnA10.RCO positively regulates the development of leaf lobes in Brassica napus, and cis-regulatory divergences cause the different allele effects. The functional importance of lobed leaves in rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) has been identified with potential advantages for high-density planting and hybrid production. Our previous studies indicated that the tandemly duplicated LMI1-like genes BnA10. RCO and BnA10.LMI1 are candidate genes of an incompletely dominant locus, which is responsible for the lobed-leaf shape in rapeseed. We provided strong evidence that BnA10.LMI1 positively regulates leaf lobe formation. Here, we show that BnA10.RCO is a nucleus-specific protein, encoding an HD-ZIP I transcription factor, which is responsible for the lobed-leaf shape in rapeseed. Sequence analysis of parental alleles revealed that no vital sequence variation was detected in the coding sequence of BnA10.RCO, whereas abundant variations were identified in the regulatory regions. Consistent with this finding, the express in the lobed-leaved parent HY were sufficient to produce an unlobed leaf without alteration in BnLMI1 transcript level. Our results indicate that BnA10.RCO functions together with BnA10.LMI1 to positively determine the lobed-leaf development, providing a fundamental basis for crop improvement by targeting leaf shape in rapeseed.

It is suspected that uterine malformations and endometriosis have a high coincidence. Furthermore, it is expected that obstructive uterine malformations are significantly higher affected than non-obstructive malformations. The correlation between endometriosis and uterine malformations may be due to increased retrograde menstruation, which would explain a higher coincidence of obstructive malformations and endometriosis [14].

This retrospective study investigates whether patients with uterine malformations have a higher prevalence of endometriosis. The study includes patients with uterine malformations who were admitted to our hospital in the period from 01.12.2014 to 30.11.2019.

279 cases were analysed. 263 (94.2%) patients had a non-obstructive uterine malformation, 12 (4.3%) patients had an obstructive uterine malformation and 4 (1.4%) patients had uterine agenesia/hypoplasia. 209 (74.9%) patients had histologically confirmed endometriosis (peritoneal, ovarian or deep infiltrating) and 70 (25.1%) had no endometriosis.
