    Vibrio parahaemolyticus is a Gram-negative, foodborne pathogenic bacterium that causes human gastroenteritis. This organism is ubiquitously present in the marine environment. Detection of V. parahaemolyticus in aquatic birds has been previously reported; however, the characterization of isolates of this bacterium recovered from these birds remains limited. The present study isolated and characterized V. parahaemolyticus from aquatic bird feces at the Bangpu Recreation Center (Samut Prakan province, Thailand) from 2016 to 2017, using multilocus sequence typing (MLST) and genome analysis. The results showed that V. parahaemolyticus was present in 34.9% (76/218) of the collected bird fecal samples. Among the ldh-positive V. parahaemolyticus isolates (n = 308), 1% (3/308) were positive for tdh, 1.3% (4/308) were positive for trh, and 0.3% (1/308) were positive for both tdh and trh. In turn, the MLST analysis revealed that 49 selected V. parahaemolyticus isolates resolved to 36 STs, 26 of which were novel (72.2%).s study reported the detection of potentially pathogenic V. parahamolyticus harboring virulence genes from aquatic bird feces at the recreational center situated near the Gulf of Thailand. These strains shared identical genetic profile to the clinical isolates that previously reported in many countries. Furthermore, the strains from aquatic birds showed extremely high genetic diversity. Our research pointed out that the aquatic bird is possibly involved in the evolution of novel strains of V. parahaemolyticus and play a role in dissimilation of the potentially pathogenic strains across geographical distance.

    The systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI) is a novel inflammatory biomarker in many diseases.

    The aim of this study was to examine the association between SIRI and adverse events in patients with the acute coronary syndrome (ACS) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention.

    A total of 1724 patients with ACS enrolled from June 2016 to November 2017 at a single centre were included in this study, and SIRI was calculated for each patient. The primary endpoint was the composite of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), including overall death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, non-fatal stroke, and unplanned repeat revascularization.

    During a median follow-up of 927 days, 355 patients had MACE. Multivariate Cox analysis showed that SIRI was significantly associated with MACE (hazard ratio 1.127, 95% confidence interval 1.034-1.229

The addition of SIRI had an incremental effect on the predictive ability of the Global Regitaneous coronary intervention.Higher SIRI is associated with a more severe disease status.The SIRI could increase the prognostic value of the GRACE risk score.We studied levels of awareness of impending death in older patients and their family caregivers. Using a mixed methods approach, we interviewed 70 family caregivers in Israel. Of the caregivers, 64% reported having been aware of the impending death, 33% were unaware, and 3% uncertain. Caregivers reported their perception that 36% of patients were aware, 27% unaware, and for 37% they were uncertain about the patient’s awareness. Mechanisms that increased caregivers’ awareness were specific diagnosis, significant deterioration in health, preparation by a health professional, or patient preparations for death. This study clarifies processes which aid awareness, and the relationship between awareness and actual preparation for dying.Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) is a foodborne pathogen transmitted from animal to humans through contaminated food. Here, we report the draft genome sequences of six STEC isolates (six serotypes) from food (cheese, coriander, and pea protein pellets) in different countries; these isolates were resistant to tetracycline, with MIC values ranging from less then 1.5 to 256 μg/mL.

    Hyperuricaemia can lead to gout and is associated with an increased risk of cardiometabolic disease. We aimed to investigate the prevalence of hyperuricaemia and its related factors in Chinese children and adolescents.

    We pooled data from 11 population-based studies comprising 54,580 participants aged 3-19 years. The sex- and age-standardized prevalence of hyperuricaemia was estimated overall and by sex, age, weight status, geographic region and survey year.

    Serum uric acid (SUA) increased gradually from 3 to 11 years with no significant sex difference, and then increased dramatically during 11-15 years. The estimated overall prevalence of hyperuricaemia was 23.3% (26.6% in boys and 19.8% in girls,

However, the detailed relationship between viral replication or pathogenicity and furin in Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) hasn’t been clarified. Here, JEV with the mutations in furin cleavage sites and its nearby were constructed. Compared with WT virus, the mutant virus showed enhanced cleavage efficiency of prM protein and increased replication ability. Furthermore, we found that the mutations mainly promote genomic replication and assembly of JEV. However, the mutant formed smaller plaques than WT virus in plaque forming assay, indicating the lower cytopathogenicity of mutant virus. To assess the virulence of JEV mutant, an in vivo assay was performed using a mouse model. A higher survival rate and attenuated neuroinflammation were observed in JEV mutant-infected mice than those of WT-infected mice, suggesting the cleavage of prM by furin was closely related to viral virulence. These findings will provide new understanding on JEV pathogenesis and contribute to the development of novel JEV vaccines. IMPORTANCE Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is the leading cause of viral encephalitis epidemics in Southeast Asia, affecting mostly children, with high morbidity and mortality. During the viral maturation process, prM is cleaved into M by the cellular endoprotease furin in the acidic secretory system. After cleavage of the prM protein, mature virions are exocytosed. Here, the mutant in furin cleavage sites and its nearby was constructed, and the results showed that the mutant virus with enhanced replication mainly occurred in the process of genomic replication and assembly. Meanwhile, the mutant showed an attenuated virulence than WT virus in vivo. Our study contributes to understanding the function of prM and M proteins and provides new clues for live vaccine designation for JEV.

    Multiple assessment tools are used in arthroscopic training and play an important role in feedback. However, it is not fully recognized as to the standard way to apply these tools. Our study aimed to investigate the use of assessment tools in arthroscopic training and determine whether there is an optimal way to apply various assessment tools in arthroscopic training.

    A search was performed using PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library electronic databases for articles published in English from January 2000 to July 2021. Eligible for inclusion were primary research articles related to using assessment tools for the evaluation of arthroscopic skills and training environments. Studies that focussed only on therapeutic cases, did not report outcome measures of technical skills, or did not mention arthroscopic skills training were excluded.

    A total of 28 studies were included for review. Multiple assessment tools were used in arthroscopic training. The most common objective metric was completion time, reported ll training.Combined use of subjective and objective assessment tools can be applied to more situations and skills and can be the optimal way for assessment.

EGFL7 is a newly identified antigenic factor that plays a role in various cancers such as breast cancer, lung cancer, and acute myeloid leukemia. We have recently found that EGFL7 is expressed in the bone microenvironment, but its role in giant-cell tumor of bone (GCTB) and osteosarcoma (OS) is unknown. The aims of this study are to examine the gene expression profile of EGFL7 in GCTB and OS and compare with that of VEGF-A-D and TNFSF11 using single-cell RNA sequencing data. In-depth differential expression analyses were employed to characterize their expression in the constituent cell types of GCTB and OS. Notably, EGFL7 in GCTB was expressed at highest levels in the endothelial cell (EC) cluster followed by osteoblasts, myeloid cells, and chondrocytes, respectively. In OS, EGFL7 exhibited highest expression in EC cell cluster followed by osteoblastic OS cells, myeloid cells 1, and carcinoma associated fibroblasts (CAFs), respectively. In comparison, VEGF-A is expressed at highest levels in myeloid cells followed by OCs in GCTB, and in myeloid cells, and OCs in OS. VEGF-B is expressed at highest levels in chondrocytes in GCTB and in OCs in OS. VEGF-C is strongly enriched in ECs and VEGF-D is expressed at weak levels in all cell types in both GCTB and OS. TNFSF11 (or RANKL) shows high expression in CAFs and osteoblastic OS cells in OS, and osteoblasts in GCTB. This study investigates pro-angiogenic genes in GCTB and OS and suggests that these genes and their expression patterns are cell-type specific and could provide potential prognostic biomarkers and cell type target treatment for GCTB and OS.Breaking time reversal symmetry in a topological insulator may lead to quantum anomalous Hall effect and axion insulator phase. MnBi4Te7 is a recently discovered antiferromagnetic topological insulator with TN ∼ 12.5 K, which is composed of an alternatively stacked magnetic layer (MnBi2Te4) and nonmagnetic layer (Bi2Te3). By means of scanning tunneling spectroscopy, we clearly observe the electronic state present at a step edge of a magnetic MnBi2Te4 layer but absent at nonmagnetic Bi2Te3 layers at 4.5 K. Furthermore, we find that as the temperature rises above TN the edge state vanishes, while the point defect induced state persists upon an increase in temperature. These results confirm the observation of magnetism-induced edge states. Our analysis based on an axion insulator theory reveals that the nontrivial topological nature of the observed edge state.
