    Uremic pruritus is a highly prevalent and debilitating symptom in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). The purpose of this review is to examine current evidence on the mechanisms and treatments of pruritus in CKD and highlight promising areas for future research.

    Published literature, including randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, case reports, and review articles, was searched for evidence pertaining to the pathophysiology and treatment of uremic pruritus.

    A comprehensive narrative review was conducted to explore the molecular mechanisms underlying uremic pruritus, as well as the evidence (or lack thereof) supporting pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatments for uremic pruritus. The potential role of patient sex in the pathophysiology and management of uremic pruritus is also discussed.

    The pathophysiology of uremic pruritus involves a complex interplay of uremic toxins, systemic inflammation, mast cell activation, and imbalance of opioid ree in the management of uremic pruritus remains lacking. Most recommendations are based on expert opinion or studies involving small numbers of patients. In addition, our understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms behind uremic pruritus is incomplete and continues to evolve over time.

But in these times of rapidly changing information and perspective, an assessment of all available data (including expert opinion) is the goal of this review. Bleeding risk factors for COVID-19-associated bleeding may include other systemic diseases, including hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and immunosuppression. Individuals with hypertension should not discontinue their medication. Current evidence does not support changes in the management of hypertension. As COVID-19 progresses, coagulation pathways are activated as part of the host inflammatory response to limit the viral infection. Specifically, D-dimers, products of fibrin as it is degraded within clots, are elevated in many cases of hospitalized COVID-19 patients. D-dimers are an indicator of a clot (thrombus) formation and breakdown. Moropathy that may arise from the systemic inflammatory response to the virus and damaged tissue caused by the infection. My manuscript presents the risk and evidence around the COVID-19-associated coagulopathies.

    Smoking cessation pharmacotherapies (SCPs) have been established as cost-effective for the treatment of tobacco use disorder across a variety of settings. In Jordan, a resource-constrained country where smoking rates rank at one of the highest globally, the cost-effectiveness of SCPs has not yet been quantified. The lack of information about the value of SCPs has contributed to low demand for them (from public and private payers) and consequently low availability of these medications. The aim of this study was to simulate-in a hypothetical cohort of Jordanian smokers-the clinical and economic impact of using two smoking cessation regimens and to generate cost-effectiveness values that can support policy changes to avail smoking cessation medication in a country burdened with heavy tobacco use.

    We employed a similar approach to a widely used economic model, the Benefits of Smoking Cessation on Outcomes (BENESCO) model. A hypothetical cohort of Jordanian male smokers aged 30 to 70 years and making a quit atline and NRT, respectively.

    For a treatment cohort of 527,118 Jordanian male smokers who intended to quit, 103,970 life years were gained using the varenicline regimen, while 64,030 life years were gained using the NRT regimen (compared to the no-intervention arm of life years). The cost per life year gained was JD1204 ($1696 USD) and JD1342 ($1890 USD) for varenicline and NRT, respectively.

While viral pneumonia remains the most common complication, reports are surfacing of cases with neurological, cardiac, and renal involvement. Even less is known about the implications in special high-risk populations. In this report, we discuss a unique case of an HIV-positive patient in New York City who presented with a 2-week history of worsening fatigue, cough, dyspnea, and myalgias and was found to have COVID-19 pneumonia and acute kidney injury. He was managed for severe uremic metabolic acidosis and electrolyte abnormalities with emergent hemodialysis and supportive therapy with subsequent improvement. Direct involvement of SARS-CoV-2 and pneumonia-induced rhabdomyolysis were identified as the precipitating factors of his acute kidney injury. The pathophysiologic mechanisms of acute kidney injury, SARS-CoV-2 renal tropism, and the impact of highly active antiretroviral therapy on COVID-19 pneumonia are discussed. We highlight the importance of clinician awareness of this potentially fatal complication of COVID-19 pneumonia, particularly in the HIV-positive population as early recognition and management can have favorable outcomes.The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically affected health care systems globally. Incidental transmission and potential harm to infected individuals are some consequences of the failure to identify high-risk patients. We report three cases of symptomatic patients that required intensive care management with labs and imaging consistent with COVID-19 with initial false-negative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction testing. Improper sampling, viral load, and manufacturer variances of tests all contribute to reduced sensitivity. A 47-day-old, asymptomatic male newborn of coronavirus disease 2019 infected mother tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. During hospitalization, he developed progressive tachypnea, tachycardia, and chest radiography abnormalities, and was diagnosed as coronavirus disease 2019 pneumonia. He was treated with favipiravir, hydroxychloroquine, and lopinavir/ritonavir. A favipiravir-based regimen may be the drug of choice for coronavirus disease 2019 pneumonia in the newborn.

    Orthorexia Nervosa is an eating disorder that has been scarcely studied in characteristics, causes and symptoms, as well as in consequences and the relationship with other eating disorders. The present study had as its main objective the analysis of said relationship and inquisition of the possibility of predicting the development of an eating disorder from the presence of orthorexia nervosa. Also, it analyzed the differences by sex in Mexican university students.

    The sample consisted of 911 university students (65.4% women and 34.6% men), between an age range of 18 to 28 years old (M = 21 and SD = 1.9). Two questionnaires were responded the ORTO14MX, a version of the ORTO-15 instrument previously validated in Mexican students, and the EDE-Q in its short version. Besides, sociodemographic data of interest was obtained and used for this study.

    The Pearson’s correlation analysis demonstrated statistically significant relations, from mild to moderate, between the factors that make up both scales, while theconcluded that there’s a vast necessity for more studies measuring the relationship between orthorexia nervosa and eating disorders, in Latinamerican samples with diverse characteristics in sociocultural backgrounds, and clinical samples.

    Emerging evidence suggests perceptions of being overweight account for many of the psychosocial consequences commonly associated with obesity. Previous research suggests an obesity achievement gap, yet limited research has explored weight perception in association with academic performance. Moreover, underweight perceptions have typically been excluded from research. The current study examined how BMI classification and weight perception relate to academic performance in a large cohort of youth.

    We used cross-sectional survey data from 61,866 grade 9-12 students attending the 122 Canadian schools that participated in Year 6 (2017/2018) of the COMPASS study. Mixed effect regression models were used to examine associations between students’ BMI classification and weight perceptions and their math and English/French course grades. All models were stratified by sex and adjusted for sociodemographic covariates and school clustering.

    For English/French grades, males and females with overweight or underweight perceptions were less likely to achieve higher grades than their peers with perceptions of being at „about the right weight”, controlling for BMI and covariates.
