    Every year tens of thousands of older Canadians travel to the southern United States (US) to live there seasonally during the winter months to enjoy a warmer climate-a practice known as international retirement migration. Several factors facilitate participation in this transnational mobility, including having the financial resources needed to live abroad. For those managing chronic or acute health conditions, traveling with a caregiver (typically a spouse) is another important facilitator. In this qualitative analysis, we explore the transnational systems of support that Canadian international retirement migrant spousal caregivers draw upon to enable them to provide care while in the US. We report on the findings of ten semi-structured dyad interviews (n = 20 participants) conducted with Canadian international retirement migrants living seasonally in Yuma, Arizona. The dyads consisted of spouses, one of whom had defined care needs and the other of whom provided informal care. Through thematic analysis of these interviews, we identified three types of transnational support systems that spousal caregivers draw on relational, community-based and practical. While aspects of these support systems have been documented in other informal care-giving studies, this analysis demonstrates their copresence in the transnational care-giving context associated with international retirement migration. Overall, this analysis highlights the benefits of close social relations enjoyed by international retirement migrants providing informal care to mitigate the lack of access to their established support networks at home.

    To develop and psychometrically test a self-assessment tool that measures undergraduate nursing and midwifery students’ perceptions of spiritual care competence in health care practice.

    Spiritual care is part of nurses/midwives’ responsibility. There is a need to better benchmark students’ competency development in spiritual care through their education. The EPICC Spiritual Care Education Standard served as groundwork for the development of the EPICC Spiritual Care Competency Self-Assessment Tool.

    Cross sectional, mixed methods design. A STROBE checklist was used.

    The Tool (available in English, Dutch and Norwegian) was developed by an international group. It was tested between July-October 2020 with a convenience sample of 323 nursing/midwifery students at eight universities in five countries. The Tool was tested for validity using Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, one-way ANOVA and independent samples t test. The reliability was tested by Cronbach’s alpha cre. The Tool offers students, educators and preceptors in clinical practice a tangible way of discussing and evaluating spiritual care competency.Two new covalent organic frameworks (COFs) were synthesized from 4,4′,4”,4”’-(pyrene-1,3,6,8-tetrayl)tetraaniline and 2,5-dimethoxyterephthalaldehyde (Py-DMTA-COF) or 2′,5′-dimethoxy-[1,1’4′,1”-terphenyl]-4,4”-dicarbaldehyde (Py-DMTPDA-COF) under solvothermal conditions. These two COFs were further facilely developed as efficient photocatalytic platforms for the synthesis of thiophosphinates. Py-DMTA-COF exhibited better photocatalytic activity, broad substrate applicability, and excellent recycling capacity for the preparation of thiophosphinates from P(O)H compounds and thiols compared to Py-DMTPDA-COF. This methodology was further extended to the seamless gram-scale production of target phosphorothioate derivatives. The results demonstrate that COFs can provide a robust platform for developing metal-free, base-free, highly efficient, and reusable heterogeneous photocatalysts for organic transformations.

    Paraspinal musculature (PSM) is increasingly recognized as a contributor to low back pain (LBP), but with conventional MRI sequences, assessment is limited. Chemical shift encoding-based water-fat MRI (CSE-MRI) enables the measurement of PSM fat fraction (FF), which may assist investigations of chronic LBP.

    To investigate associations between PSM parameters from conventional MRI and CSE-MRI and between PSM parameters and pain.

Transdiagnostic and disorder-specific brain changes associated with familial risk for developing these disorders remain poorly understood. We carried out a meta-analysis of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) studies to investigate white matter microstructure abnormalities in relatives that might correspond to shared and discrete biomarkers of familial risk for psychotic or mood disorders. A systematic search of PubMed and Embase was performed to identify DTI studies in relatives of SCZ, BD, and MDD patients. Seed-based d Mapping software was used to investigate global differences in fractional anisotropy (FA) between overall and disorder-specific relatives and healthy controls (HC). Our search identified 25 studies that met full inclusion criteria. A total of 1,144 relatives and 1,238 HC were included in the meta-analysis. The overall relatives exhibited decreased FA in the genu and splenium of corpus callosum (CC) compared with HC. This finding was found highly replicable in jack-knife analysis and subgroup analyses. In disorder-specific analysis, compared to HC, relatives of SCZ patients exhibited the same changes while those of BD showed reduced FA in the left inferior longitudinal fasciculus (ILF). The present study showed decreased FA in the genu and splenium of CC in relatives of SCZ, BD, and MDD patients, which might represent a shared familial vulnerability marker of severe mental illness. The white matter abnormalities in the left ILF might represent a specific familial risk for bipolar disorder.Sulfides are perceived as promising anode materials for potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) due to their high theoretical specific capacity and structural diversity. Nonetheless, the poor structural stability and sluggish kinetics of sulfides lead to unsatisfactory electrochemical performance. Herein, Ni3 S2 -Co9 S8 heterostructures with an open-ended nanocage structure wrapped by reduced graphene oxide (Ni-Co-S@rGO cages) are well designed as the anode for PIBs via a selective etching and one-step sulfuration approach. The hollow Ni-Co-S@rGO nanocages, with large surface area, abundant heterointerfaces, and unique open-ended nanocage structure, can reduce the K+ diffusion length and promote reaction kinetics. When used as the anode for PIBs, the Ni-Co-S@rGO exhibits high reversible capacity and low capacity degradation (0.0089% per cycle over 2000 cycles at 10 A g-1 ). A potassium-ion full battery with a Ni-Co-S@rGO anode and Prussian blue cathode can display a superior reversible capacity of 400 mAh g-1 after 300 cycles at 2 A g-1 . The unique structural advantages and electrochemical reaction mechanisms of the Ni-Co-S@rGO are revealed by finite-element-simulation in situ characterizations. The universal synthesis technology of bimetallic sulfide anodes for advanced PIBs may provide vital guidance to design high-performance energy-storage materials.The purpose of this study was to examine the associations between caregiver’s burden and three components of burnout (emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, and sense of personal accomplishment) among family caregivers, as well as the moderating effects of emotional empathy on these associations. We conducted a cross-sectional study of 300 informal caregivers caring for their elderly relatives in the Arab community in Israel, using face-to-face structured interviews in Arabic. Three hierarchical regressions were applied to examine the factors related to each of the burnout components. Additional bootstrapping with resampling strategies was used to test the moderation effects of emotional empathy. The results showed positive correlations between caregiver’s burden and two burnout components, emotional exhaustion and depersonalisation, but not with personal accomplishment. Greater emotional exhaustion and depersonalisation levels were related to higher emotional empathy. Perceived social support is linked negatively with emotional exhaustion and depersonalisation levels, and positively with personal accomplishment. In addition, emotional empathy emerged as a moderator in the associations between caregiver burden and two components of burnout emotional exhaustion and depersonalisation. Interventions for familial caregivers should aim to heighten social support and to educate caregivers on effectively regulating their emotional empathy to reduce caregiver’s burden and burnout.

    To evaluate acceptability, efficiency, and quality of a new digital care management system in a residential aged care home (RACH).

    Improving care quality and efficiency in RACH, while simultaneously upgrading data management, is a priority for communities and governments.

    Participatory action research with mixed methods data collection was employed to evaluate a digital care management system implemented at a 169-bed RACH. This paper reports qualitative findings of the 2-year evaluation.

    Qualitative data were collected using focus groups with residents, visitors, nurses, managers, care workers, and consultants; resident/visitor and staff hallway interviews and responses to open-ended questions in online staff surveys. Data were analysed thematically under the four predetermined study objectives. Reporting adhered to COREQ guidelines.

    325 data captures from 88 participants, over seven data sources were coded. Findings indicate that the system was acceptable to both residents and staff due to perceptid models of care provision.

    Nurses, carers, administrators, and advocates can support the co-design creation of information systems that suit the workflow of an organisation and keep the focus on individualised models of care provision.Novel 2D magnets exhibit intrinsic electrically tunable magnetism down to the monolayer limit, which has significant value for nonvolatile memory and emerging computing device applications. In these compounds, spin-phonon coupling (SPC) typically plays a crucial role in magnetic fluctuations, magnon dissipation, and ultimately establishing long-range ferromagnetic order. However, a systematic understanding of SPC in 2D magnets that combines theory and experiment is still lacking. In this work, monolayer chromium tribromide is studied to investigate SPC in 2D magnets via Raman spectroscopy and first principle calculations. The experimental Curie temperature and phonon shifts are found to be in good agreement with the numerical simulations. Specifically, it is demonstrated how magnetic exchange interactions affect phonon vibrations, which helps establish design fundamentals for 2D magnetic materials and other related devices.
