According to the results obtained within the scope of the study, it was determined that zingerone treatment prevented the increase in MTX-induced liver and kidney function markers, showed healing effects on antioxidant parameters degraded in both tissues, and decreased the inflammation parameters. It was determined that it also prevented apoptosis and possessed a protective effect on disrupted tissue architecture by decreasing the increased caspase-3 expression and increasing the decreased Bcl-2 level.There is little evidence about the impact of birth month on total and cardiovascular disease mortality in developing countries. We evaluated these associations using the population health registration data of Hefei City, China from 2014 to 2017. After controlling for the fixed effects of gender, education, and occupation, we fitted the Cox proportional hazard regression model to assess the relationship between birth month and mortality. Hazard ratio (HR) with corresponding 95% confidence interval (CI) was calculated. All data analyses were performed by R 3.6.0 software. The data of 44 665 participants were analyzed in the study. Compared to people born in January, people born between May and October had higher total and cardiovascular mortality, being highest in June, respectively, HR 1.130 (95%CI 1.074 to 1.190) and HR 1.200 (95%CI 1.115 to 1.290). After stratification by gender, males born in June had highest risk total and cardiovascular mortality, with an increase in risk of 14.8% and 24.7%, respectively. For females, highest risk of total mortality was increased by 11.1% in those born in July, while those born in December had highest increase in cardiovascular mortality risk by 15.7%. Our results indicate in Hefei City, China month of birth is associated with total and cardiovascular disease mortality.This study aimed to investigate the underdiagnosis of COPD and its determinants based on the Tunisian Burden of Obstructive Lung Disease study. We collected information on respiratory history symptoms and risk factors for COPD. Post-bronchodilator (Post-BD) FEV1/FVC less then the lower limit of normal (LLN) was used to define COPD. Undiagnosed COPD was considered when participants had post-BD FEV1/FVC less then LLN but were not given a diagnosis of emphysema, chronic bronchitis or COPD. 730 adults aged ⩾40 years selected from the general population were interviewed, 661 completed spirometry, 35 (5.3%) had COPD and 28 (80%) were undiagnosed with the highest prevalence in women (100%). When compared with patients with an established COPD diagnosis, undiagnosed subjects had a lower education level, milder airway obstruction (Post-BD FEV1 z-score -2.2 vs. -3.7, p less then 0.001), fewer occurrence of wheezing (42.9% vs. 100%, p = 0.009), less previous lung function test (3.6% vs. 42.8%, p = 0.019) and less visits to the physician (32.1% vs. 85.7%, p = 0.020) in the past year. Multivaried analysis showed that the probability of COPD underdiagnosis was higher in subjects who had mild to moderate COPD and in those who did not visit a clinician and did not perform a spirometry in the last year. Collectively, our results highlight the need to improve the diagnosis of COPD in Tunisia. Wider use of spirometry should reduce the incidence of undiagnosed COPD. Spirometry should also predominately be performed not only in elderly male smokers but also in younger women in whom the prevalence of underdiagnosis is the highest.Breast cancer (BC) and endocrine resistance to chemotherapy are challenging problems where angiogenesis plays fundamental roles. Thus, targeting of VEGFR-2 signalling pathway has been an attractive approach. In this study, we synthesised a new sorafenib analogue, thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidine based urea derivative, KM6. It showed 65% inhibition of VEGF2 tyrosine kinase activity and demonstrated a potential antitumor activity in TAM-resistant, LCC2, and its parental MCF7 BC cells. KM6 retained the sensitivity of LCC2 through upregulation of key enzymes of apoptosis and proteins of cell death including caspases 3, 8, 9, P53, BAX/BCL-2 ratio and LDH in media. It downregulated mRNA expression of Ki-67, survivin, Akt, and reduced levels of ROS and glucose uptake. Moreover, KM6 reduced the levels of inflammation markers PGE2, COX2, IL-1β and IL6 and metastasis markers MMP-2 and MMP-9. In conclusion, KM6 is a promising compound for ER + and TAM-resistant BC with many potential antitumor and polypharmacological mechanisms.Dialectal variations are present in all languages, originating from cultural, geographic and socioeconomic diversity. This study investigates speech-language pathologists’ (SLPs) linguistic bias towards non-standard language forms and dialects, and factors that may impact on these attitudes. Language attitude studies reveal that negative attitudes towards variation can lead to bias against speakers of non-standard dialects. If SLPs hold linguistic bias towards speakers of non-standard dialects, this has the potential to impact upon their clinical judgement of difference vs. disorder and lead to inequality of service provision. A total of 129 Australian SLPs completed an online survey, which involved ranking 28 attitudinal statements regarding language variation on a 5-point scale from strongly disagree to strongly agree. The survey data were analysed using a factor analysis in SPSS to identify latent factors that identified attitudes towards non-standard dialects followed by inferential analyses to investigatcultural and linguistic diversity, negative attitudes towards non-standard forms and variation in school and occupational settings have the potential to negatively impact differential diagnosis, goal setting and the delivery of culturally responsive speech-language pathology services to speakers of non-standard dialects.Our objective was to examine the association between participant-reported family affluence and sport specialization level. We conducted a cross-sectional investigation of adolescent athletes. Specifically, participants completed a level of sport specialization (low/moderate/high) questionnaire and the Family Affluence Scale. The majority (52%) of the 195 youth athlete participants reported low, 33% reported moderate, and 15% reported high sport specialization. Sport specialization groups were similar in age (mean = 15.3 ± 1.6 years), proportion of females (49%), and time spent training (mean = 11.9 ± 5.0 hours per week). The high sport specialization group reported significantly greater family affluence than the low sport specialization group (Family Affluence Scale = 10.4 ± 1.7 vs 9.2 ± 1.9; P = .005). After covariate adjustment, higher levels of sport specialization remained significantly associated with greater family affluence (β = 0.48, 95% confidence interval = 0.11-0.86). Understanding the relationship between family affluence and sports specialization affords an opportunity to better identify and monitor populations likely to specialize in a single sport during high school.Youth-led participatory action research (YPAR) is a theoretical-methodological approach that has been designed to promote positive development (e.g., well-being and health, social-emotional and cognitive development, academic or career advancement) and civic engagement among young people. Although YPAR holds particular promise, there has been little systematic assessment of its effects. Moreover, no study has investigated the role of YPAR in the promotion of active citizenship. We report on an effectiveness evaluation of a YPAR project designed to promote European active citizenship (i.e., identification and attitudes toward a political entity, institutional trust, participation, and political alienation) and social well-being among adolescents. Our sample included 69 Italian high school students (35 in the intervention group; 34 in the control group). We evaluated the impact of YPAR using a pretest-posttest control group design and fitting the generalized estimating equations procedure. The results showed that participants in the intervention group reported increased scores on social well-being, institutional trust, and participation and decreased scores on political alienation compared with the control group. We found no significant effects for identification as European and attitudes toward a political entity. Findings support the benefits of YPAR in terms of social well-being and active citizenship.In this study, raw and germinated quinoa seed flour was utilized in gluten-free pasta formulation. Ricecorn semolina (5050) blend was used in gluten-free pasta as a control group. Quinoa flours were replaced with ricecorn semolina blend at different (0-30%) ratios in gluten-free pasta formulation. Guar gum (3%) was also used to tolerate structural defects caused by gluten deficiency. Trials were conducted according to (2 × 4) × 2 factorial design. Color values, cooking properties, and chemical and sensory attributes of gluten-free pasta samples were determined. Quinoa flour type and quinoa flour addition ratio factors significantly (p less then 0.05) affected the L*, a* color values and all of the cooking properties of the gluten-free pasta samples. Utilization of germinated quinoa flour in gluten-free pasta revealed lower water uptake, volume increase, firmness, and higher cooking loss values than that of raw quinoa flour. Quinoa flour especially improved the mean values of protein, total phenolic content, antioxidant activity from 8.1%, 0.7 mg GAE/g, and 13.4%, up to 12.7%, 1.5 mg GAE/g, and 28.8%, respectively. A significant (p less then 0.05) increment was observed in Ca, Fe, K, Mg, P, and Z content of the gluten-free pasta and all addition ratios of quinoa flour. As a result, increasing amount of quinoa flour enriched the nutritional composition of gluten-free pasta but high utilization ratio resulted in slight sensory losses.
This study evaluated whether the addition of a nitinol staple-plate to a single cannulated screw increased the mechanical stability for a talonavicular fixation construct.
Twenty matched pairs of cadaveric feet were randomized to fusion with either a single 5.5-mm cannulated screw or a screw and a plate with 2 screws and a slot with an 18-mm nitinol staple. After in situ fusion procedure, the talonavicular joint complex was dissected free and the ends were embedded in epoxy. The specimens were then cyclically loaded on a servohydraulic load frame (1000 cycles at 20 N, increasing at intervals of 20 N until failure), half of them for cantilever bending and the other half for torsion.
In the bending arm of the study, the staple-plate group showed significantly higher stiffness, failure load, and cycles to failure. In the torsion arm of the study, the staple-plate group also had higher cycles to failure, stiffness in external rotation, and torque to failure. No significant difference was noted in stiffness in internal rotation.
We found a significant increase in stability of the talonavicular joint when a nitinol staple-plate construct was placed to augment a single cannulated screw for the purpose of a talonavicular fusion.
