    Research on talent in sports aims to identify predictors of future performance. This study retrospectively investigated 1) relationships between young handball field players’ technical throwing skills and (a) their potential nomination to youth national teams and (b) their long-term career attainment 10 years later, and 2) associations between nomination status and career attainment.

    Results from retrospectively predicting nomination status and career attainment using logistic regression analyses show that technical throwing skills were partly able to explain players’ nomination status (Nagelkerke R

    females 9.2%, males 13.1%) and career attainment (Nagelkerke R

    9.8% for female players). Here, variables throwing velocity and time on exercise showed statistically significant effects. In addition, nomination status and career attainment were shown to be associated using chi-square tests (w of .37 and .23 for female and male players, respectively) and nomination status as a predictor increased the prediction of career attainment remarkably (Nagelkerke R

    Given these results, basic technical throwing skills may serve rather as a prerequisite in this age group on national level, emphasizing its importance already on lower levels and in younger age groups. Furthermore, advantages from entering the national TID system early especially for females are discussed.Caudal-type homeobox 2 (CDX2), special AT-rich sequence-binding protein 2 (SATB2), and keratin 20 (KRT20) are frequently used as intestinal epithelium-specific markers in immunohistochemical studies. However, subsets of colorectal carcinomas (CRCs) show loss of these markers. We analyzed The Cancer Genome Atlas data to explore molecular correlates of CDX2, SATB2, and KRT20 genes in 390 CRCs. The decreased mRNA expression of each of the three genes commonly correlated with microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H), CpG island methylator phenotype-high (CIMP-H), BRAF/RNF43 mutations, consensus molecular subtype 1, and high tumor mutational burden. The downregulation of CDX2 or SATB2 was dependent on both MSI-H and CIMP-H, whereas that of KRT20 was more dependent on MSI-H than on CIMP-H. Next, we evaluated the immunohistochemical expression of CDX2, SATB2, and KRT20 in 436 primary CRCs. In contrast to RNA-level expression, decreased expression of CDX2 and SATB2 was more dependent on CIMP-H than on MSI-H. However, consistent with RNA-level expression, decreased expression of KRT20 was more dependent on MSI-H than on CIMP-H. CIMP-H and lymphatic invasion were consistently associated with both CDX2 loss and SATB2 loss in CRCs, regardless of MSI status. In microsatellite stable CRCs, CDX2 loss correlated with BRAF mutation, whereas SATB2 loss was associated with KRAS mutations and decreased T-cell infiltration. Cases with concurrent loss of all three markers were found exclusively in MLH1-methylated MSI-H/CIMP-H CRCs. In conclusion, MSI-H and/or CIMP-H are major common correlates of decreased CDX2/SATB2/KRT20 expression in CRCs, but the specific features associated with the loss of each marker are different in CRCs.Recent advancements in breast cancer treatment have ushered in a new era of precision medicine. Novel trials have led to the approval of a growing list of personalized therapies and corresponding biomarkers. These advancements have shifted the pathologist’s practice into a leading role in the management breast cancer. Understanding the complex algorithms and diagnostic modalities used to assess predictive and prognostic biomarkers is central for quality oncology care. ER and HER2 subcategorize breast cancers into treatment groups under which different biomarkers and therapies are indicated, while they also serve as predictive biomarkers for specific targeted treatments. This review will cover the evolution and latest updates of the CAP/ASCO guidelines relevant to these two important biomarkers in breast cancer. Still evolving concepts such as HER2 heterogeneity, HER2 „low,” and HER2-mutated cancers have the potential to continue to change HER2 testing in breast cancers. In addition to ER and HER2, biomarkers potential immunotherapy in triple negative patients) and PIK3CA mutation status (for potential PI3K inhibitor therapy in ER-positive metastatic patients). In a recent study, Kagawa et al. identified an approach to create human pluripotent stem cell-based blastoids that resemble the human blastocysts. These blastoids efficiently generated analogs of the EPI, TE, PrE lineages with transcriptomes highly similar to those found in vivo. Furthermore, the formation of these lineages followed the same sequence and pace of blastocyst development, and was also dependent on the same pathways required for lineage specification. Finally, the blastoids were capable of attaching to stimulated endometrial cells to mimic the process of implantation. While more comprehensive analysis is needed to confirm its validity and usefulness, this new blastoid system presents the latest development in the attempt to model early human embryogenesis in vitro.

    Craniocervical dissociation is a rare and life-threatening injury that results from a significant hyperflexion-hyperextension force. Occult craniocervical dissociation is defined as an unstable craniocervical injury in the absence of atlanto-occipital joint space widening or other skull base line abnormality. The early and accurate diagnosis of craniocervical dissociation is crucial since the early diagnosis and subsequent stabilization with occipital-cervical fusion has been shown to reduce neurologic morbidity and mortality. Several normative skull base lines have been developed to predict craniocervical dissociation. The purpose of our study was to measure the atlanto-occipital joint space and four other common skull base lines in patients who underwent occipital-cervical fusion for post-traumatic craniocervical instability.

    The suitability of corticomotor inhibition and corticospinal excitability to measure brain health outcomes and recovery of sport-related head impact (concussion and subconcussion) depends on good inter-day reliability, which is evaluated in this study. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) reliability in soccer players is assessed by comparing soccer players, for whom reliability on this measure may be reduced due to exposure to head impacts, to generally active individuals not engaged in contact sport.

    TMS-derived corticomotor inhibition and corticospinal excitability were recorded from the rectus femoris muscle during two testing sessions, spaced 1-2weeks apart in 19 soccer players (SOC-age 22 ± 3years) and 20 generally active (CON-age 24 ± 4years) healthy volunteers. Inter-day reliability between the two time points was quantified by using intra-class correlation coefficients (ICC). Intra-group reliability and group differences on actual measurement values were also explored.

    Patients with advanced cancer often experience cognitive dysfunction, which may influence decision making, self-perception, and existential well-being. However, there is little evidence regarding this issue. This study analysed associations between objective neuropsychological measures and patients’ self-report of cognitive dysfunction interfering with everyday life, general well-being, and sense of existential value.

    A mixed method study assessed 13 adult patients with advanced cancer with validated neuropsychological tests, which assessed sustained attention, psychomotor speed, memory/attention, mental flexibility, and a measure of global cognitive function. These were followed by semi-structured interviews focusing on subjective experiences of cognitive dysfunction. Agreement between subjective and objective measures were analysed by Cohen’s Kappa (k). Thematic analysis explored associations with cognitive deficits.

    Individuals diagnosed with cancer have a range of supportive care needs that are often unmet despite substantial evidence supporting interventions to address them. Addressing this knowledge-translation gap represents a significant opportunity to improve health outcomes. A scoping review of reviews was conducted to map the breadth of evidence for interventions, highlighting those with an existing evidence base, as well as those requiring further research.

    Systematic or meta-analytic reviews that examined interventions targeting supportive care needs of adults and children with cancer published between 2009 and 2019 were identified via searches in Medline, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Scopus and Cochrane.

    Five hundred fifty-one systematic reviews, including 250 meta-analyses, of interventions addressing supportive care needs, were included. Most reviews focused on interventions to address the physical and psychosocial needs of individuals with few reviews identified to address practical needs. Interventions using mevice providers can search to identify appropriate interventions. Results highlight specific research gaps, particularly for practical needs, where reviews are needed. It highlights where a substantial evidence base exists that researchers and policy-makers can consider when implementing interventions.

    Ventilation strategies in atrial fibrillation ablation affect procedure outcomes by influencing catheter stability. Studies have highlighted favorable atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation outcomes with the use of high-frequency jet ventilation (HFJV) which has been shown to improve lesion durability, energy delivery, and tissue contact. However, this mode of ventilation is not readily available. In this systematic review, we highlight the available data on the use of very low tidal volume, high-frequency ventilation using standard ventilators that aim to provide settings similar to HFJV during AF ablations.

    Using a combination of search terms in databases and manual searches in bibliographies of identified articles, we reviewed all published data reported in the English language on the use of very low tidal volume with high-frequency ventilation during atrial fibrillation ablation.

    A total of 4 manuscripts were identified; 3 cohort studies and 1 case report. The utilization of standard ventilators with a high-frequency, very low tidal volume ventilation strategy appears to closely mimic the catheter stability benefits that HFJV ventilators provide.
