The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the number of p16-positive cells in the functional layer of the endometrium could be a useful biomarker to identify women with recurrent implantation failure (RIF) undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) at risk of miscarriage.
Immunohistochemical staining was performed in 311 endometrial biopsies taken during mid-luteal phase using antibody against p16
. The percentage of p16-positive cells was determined in luminal, glandular and stromal endometrial cells. After embryo transfer, women were divided into the following groups unsuccessful embryo implantation (n = 151), miscarriage (n = 66) and live birth (n = 94). The percentage of p16-positive cells in all endometrial compartments was compared among these groups.
We found that the percentages of p16-positive glandular and luminal epithelial endometrial cells were significantly higher in patients with live births compared to women with miscarriage (9.3% vs. 2.9%, P < 0.001; and 35.2% vs. 11.7%, P = 0.001,um may be at greater risk for unsuccessful implantation and miscarriage. The percentage of p16-positive luminal epithelial cells may be clinically useful as a biomarker of miscarriage.Interactions with the police may result in police brutality, particularly for people of color. Black men who have sex with men (BMSM) face disproportionate risk of police contact and may experience elevated violence risk. We measured longitudinal associations between discriminatory police harassment (DPH) and subsequent risk of a range of interpersonal violence experiences, including intimate partner violence (IPV). In this study, we estimated associations between DPH motivated by racism, homophobia, or both, and subsequent violent experiences (being physically harassed, hit, threatened with weapons, and intimate partner violence) among BMSM. Bivariate and multivariable regression analyses were used to control for demographic and behavioral factors. Among 1160 BMSM included at 12-month follow-up, experiencing DPH motivated by racism and homophobia was associated with over four times the odds of being threatened with violence (AOR 4.85, 95% CI 3.20, 7.33), four times the odds of or experiencing violence defined as being punched, kicked, or beaten, or having an object thrown at them (AOR 4.51, 95% CI 2.82, 7.19), and nearly three times the odds of physical partner abuse (AOR 3.49, 95% CI 1.69, 7.19). Findings suggest that for BMSM, DPH is associated with the threat and experience of violence, with a dose-response relationship between DPH motivated by one or more causes. Given that BMSM are a population particularly vulnerable to both police harassment related to race and sexual orientation and violence coupled with stigma, additional research evaluating mechanisms linking these associations is needed in order to develop additional supportive interventions.Performance validity tests (PVTs) based on the forced-choice recognition memory (FCRM) paradigm are commonly used for the detection of noncredible performance. Examinees’ response times (RTs) are affected by cognitive processes associated with deception and can also be gathered without lengthening the duration of the assessment. Consequently, interest in the utility of these measures as supplementary validity indicators in FCRM-PVTs has grown over the years. The current systematic review summarizes both clinical and simulation (i.e., healthy participants simulating cognitive impairment) studies of RTs in FCRM-PVTs. The findings of 25 peer-reviewed articles (n = 26 empirical studies) indicate that noncredible performance in FCRM-PVTs is associated with longer RTs. Additionally, there are indications that noncredible performance is associated with larger variability in RTs. RT measures, however, have lower discrimination capacity than conventional accuracy measures. Their utility may therefore lie in reaching decisions regarding cases with border zone accuracy scores, as well as aiding in the detection of more sophisticated examinees who are aware of the use of accuracy-based validity indicators in FCRM-PVTs. More research, however, is required before these measures are incorporated in daily practice and clinical decision-making processes.Specification of the progenitors’ regional identity is a pivotal step during development of the cerebral cortex and basal ganglia. In its absence, the RNA-Seq analysis, in situ RNA hybridization, and immunofluorescence staining results showed that the cell proliferation was increased in the subpallium, but the neuronal differentiation was blocked. Moreover, the dLGE expands ventrally, and the vLGE, MGE, and septum get smaller. Finally, overexpressed VAX1 in the LGE progenitors strongly inhibits Gsx2 expression. Taken together, our findings show that Vax1 is crucial for subpallium regionalization by repressing Gsx2.Autophagy is an evolutionary conserved process for the self-degradation and recycling of cellular components in the cytoplasm. It is involved in both physiological and pathological conditions. In detail, the term „autophagy” refers to intracellular degradative pathways that lead to packaging and deliver of cellular components to lysosomes or to plant and yeast vacuoles. Autophagy is triggered by a variety of stimuli like nutrient deprivation, hypoxia, mitochondrial dysfunction, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and is regulated by immune- and hormonal factors. The role of autophagy in tumor cells is complex. Indeed, autophagy may act as a tumor suppressor as well as a tumor survival factor, in a context-dependent manner. The research into autophagy in normal pituitary and pituitary tumors has not gained great consideration, yet. Nevertheless, some recent articles joint to previous case studies, suggest that this process plays a role in the modulation and fluctuation of normal pituitary cell functions and in the response of pituitary tumor cells to drug therapy, including the response to somatostatin receptor ligand (SRLs), the first-line medical therapy of acromegaly. Although it is not possible to draw any conclusion, the aim of this review was to highlight some considerations and perspectives in this research field. Reports on the effects of octreotide on autophagy induction and autophagic flux in extra-pituitary target tissues, have also been discussed.Fruit juices are successfully proposed as suitable probiotic vehicles, but researchers’ efforts should be developed to avoid effects of bacteria overgrowing on sensory and nutritional cues of final products and to preserve viability of probiotic bacteria during storage. In the present study, encapsulation of Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG strain in alginate systems was performed through ionotropic gelation technology. The alginate systems were optimized by using Box-Behnken Design to investigate the influence of three independent variables at three different levels particle mean size and polydispersity index. The optimized probiotic-loaded alginate particles were added to orange juice samples. The viability of the probiotic strain, both as free and microencapsulated, was evaluated in orange juice stored at 5°C for 35 days. Morphology and size of probiotic-loaded alginate particles were found suitable for incorporation into juice. TEM analysis revealed that unloaded systems were clustered as nanoparticles (CL_NP), while the loaded sample appeared as a coated system (Coated_LGG). Microbiological evaluation revealed that the encapsulation assured the survival of Coated_LGG, with a reduction of less than 1-unit log in cellular density after 35 days of refrigerated storage in orange juice. Results indicated that the encapsulated bacteria did not affect the macroscopic properties neither the microbiological characteristic of orange juice; thus, it can be proposed as functional food.Cementoenamel junction is an anatomical landmark which indicates the meeting point of enamel of the crown and the cementum of the root. It is an important reference point in clinical dentistry as well as in dental radiography. The present study is done to describe the distribution of the mineralized tissue at the cementoenamel junction in relation to various surfaces of the premolars. The study sample consisted of 89 permanent maxillary and mandibular premolars from both males and females extracted for orthodontic reasons. They were stained with carbol fuchsin and observed under a dissecting microscope to identify the following tissue interrelationships at the cementoenamel junction cementum overlapping the enamel; edge-to-edge relationship between enamel and cementum; gap between the enamel and cementum and enamel overlapping the cementum. The cementum overlapping the enamel interrelationship was predominant in the buccal and lingual surfaces of both first and second maxillary premolars, while the edge-to-edge relationship and the presence of a gap between the enamel and the cementum relationship were abundant in distal and mesial sides. Enamel overlapping the cementum was recorded only in a very small proportion of the sample. A good understanding about the morphological variations at the cementoenamel junction area is very important and this area should be handled carefully during routine dental procedures such as dental bleaching, orthodontic treatment, placement of rubber dam and placement of dental materials.
Oxygen extraction fraction (OEF) is a biomarker for the viability of brain tissue in ischemic stroke. However, acquisition of the OEF map using positron emission tomography (PET) with oxygen-15 gas is uncomfortable for patients because of the long fixation time, invasive arterial sampling, and radiation exposure. We aimed to predict the OEF map from magnetic resonance (MR) and PET images using a deep convolutional neural network (CNN) and to demonstrate which PET and MR images are optimal as inputs for the prediction of OEF maps.
Cerebral blood flow at rest (CBF) and during stress (sCBF), cerebral blood volume (CBV) maps acquired from oxygen-15 PET, and routine MR images (T1-, T2-, and T2*-weighted images) for 113 patients with steno-occlusive disease were learned with U-Net. MR and PET images acquired from the other 25 patients were used as test data. We compared the predicted OEF maps and intraclass correlation (ICC) with the real OEF values among combinations of MRI, CBF, CBV, and sCBF.
Among the combinations of input images, OEF maps predicted by the model learned with MRI, CBF, CBV, and sCBF maps were the most similar to the real OEF maps (ICC 0.597 ± 0.082). However, the contrast of predicted OEF maps was lower than that of real OEF maps.
These results suggest that the deep CNN learned useful features from CBF, sCBF, CBV, and MR images and predict qualitatively realistic OEF maps. These findings suggest that the deep CNN model can shorten the fixation time for

scans. Further training with a larger data set is required to predict accurate OEF maps quantitatively.
