    Our results revealed that decreased miR-126 in psoriatic CD4+ T cells might accelerate the formation of skin lesions through promoting the differentiation of Th17 cells, thus suggesting a potential intervention target for psoriasis.In this commentary, we respond to Burnette et al.’s (2021) paper, which gives significant practical recommendations to improve data quality and validity while gathering data via Amazon’s Mechanical Turk (MTurk). We argue that it is also important to acknowledge and review the specific ethical issues that might arise when recruiting MTurk workers as participants. We particularly raise three main ethical concerns that need to be addressed when recruiting research participants from participant recruitment platforms participants’ economic vulnerability, participants’ sensitivity, and power dynamics between participants and researchers. We elaborate on these issues by discussing the ways in which they may appear and be responded to. We conclude that considering the ethical aspects of data collection and the potential impacts of data collection on those involved would complement Burnette et al.’s recommendations. Consequently, data collection processes should be transparent as well, in addition to data screening processes.Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene mutation has been clearly defined in congenital absence of the vas deferens (CAVD), which is an important cause of obstructive azoospermia. However, the association between oligoasthenospermia and CFTR gene mutation remains controversial. To confirm this issue, 151 infertile Chinese men were screened for CFTR mutation by NGS approach, including 18 CAVD patients, 72 patients with severe oligoasthenospermia and 61 controls with normal sperm parameters. Frequency of mutation in exons of CFTR gene were 66.7% in CAVD patients (12/18) (p C) have not been reported in the Cystic Fibrosis Mutation Database before. Thus, our study provides evidence that CFTR gene mutation may be the aetiology of severe oligoasthenospermia other than CAVD. It may be necessary to screen for CFTR mutations in men with severe oligoasthenospermia before receiving assisted reproductive technology.

    Within physical therapy, manual therapy is known to be effective for managing temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). However, manual therapy is a broad term including different approaches applied to different body regions.

    This is the first systematic review that aims to evaluate the effectiveness of manual therapy applied specifically to the craniomandibular structures (Cranio-Mandibular Manual Therapy [CMMT]) on pain and maximum mouth opening in people with TMD.

    This systematic review was developed based on a pre-determined published protocol which was prospectively registered with PROSPERO (CRD42019160213). A search of MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, ZETOC, Web of Science, SCOPUS, PEDro, PubMed, Cochrane Library and Best Evidence, EBM reviews-Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Index to Chiropractic Literature ChiroAccess and Google Scholar databases was conducted from inception until October 2020. Randomised controlled trials comparing the effect of CMMT on pain and maximum mouth opening versus otigating different manual therapy techniques applied to different regions and different populations (e.g., chronic versus acute TMD) to determine what is most effective for pain and maximum mouth opening in patients with TMDs.

    Mitral valve regurgitation (MR) is a common finding in patients with end-stage heart failure. The aim of the study was to analyze the impact of preoperative moderate-to-severe MR on postoperative outcomes and survival after durable left-ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation.

    From August 2010 to May 2021, 246 patients underwent a durable LVAD implantation. We stratified the patients into two groups Group A (n=109) presented with MR 0-I°, and Group B presented with MR II-III° (n=137). MR II-III° was defined according to the current recommendations (i.e., vena contracta ≥ 7 mm, regurgitation volume ≥ 30 ml or effective regurgitation orifice area ≥ 20 mm

    Significantly more patients in Group B suffered from pulmonary hypertension and presented with chronic obstructive lung disease. We observed significantly higher rates of tricuspid regurgitation (TR) II-III° in Group B (76.1%) versus Group A (14.8%) (p<0.001) and TR III° in Group B (30.4%) versus Group A (3.7%) (p<0.001). We found the reversed halo sign (RHS) occurred in the imaging manifestations of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 delta variant of concern pneumonia. In the absence of pathology, the mechanism is unknown. Therefore, we reported two cases of RHS and tried to speculate the pathological mechanism through multiple computed tomography follow-up comparisons to judge the prognosis of the disease.

    Management of acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) requires accurate assessment of relative intravascular volume, which may be technically challenging. Inferior vena cava (IVC) collapsibility with respiration reflects intravascular volume and right atrial pressure (RAP). Subclavian vein (SCV) collapsibility may provide an alternative.

    The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between SCV collapsibility index (CI) and IVC CI in ADHF.

    This was a prospective study of non-ventilated patients with ADHF who had paired IVC and SCV ultrasound assessments. As SCV CI is highly position-dependent, measurements were performed supine at 30-45°.

    Thirty-three patients were included with 36 encounters. The sample size was adequately powered for receiver-operator characteristic (ROC) analysis. SCV CI correlated with IVC CI during relaxed breathing (R = .65, n = 36, p < .001) and forced inhalation (R = .47, n = 36, p = .0036). SCV CI < 22% and >33% corresponded to IVC CI < 20% and >50 intravascular volume.To develop new acetylcholinesterase (AChE)-monoamine oxidase-B (MAO-B) dual inhibitors against Alzheimer’s disease, the benzimidazole ring, which has a propargyl side chain with previously proven selective MAO-B inhibitory activity, was used as the main structure. Moreover, like donepezil, it was thought that the enzyme AChE would provide π-π interactions with the peripheral anionic side in this structure. Piperazine derivatives were chosen for the cationic active site. The synthesis of the compounds was carried out in five steps. The structures of the compounds were determined using 1 H-NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance), 13 C-NMR, and high-resolution mass spectrometry spectroscopic methods. First, the in vitro AChE, butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), MAO-A, and MAO-B inhibitory potentials of the obtained compounds were investigated. As a result of activity tests, compounds 5b, 5e, 5g, and 5h showed inhibitory activity against AChE; compounds 5e and 5g showed inhibitory activity against MAO-B. None of the compounds showed inhibitory activity against BChE or MAO-A. Compounds 5e and 5g showed dual inhibition. Among these compounds, compound 5g had inhibition potential similar to that of donepezil and selegiline. For compound 5g, further kinetic studies and Aβ-plaque inhibitory potentials were investigated using in vitro methods. Molecular docking studies were performed using both AChE and hMAO-B crystals to elucidate the compound’s interactions with the enzyme active site. The binding modes of the compound on AChE were fully elucidated by molecular dynamics studies.In the present study, we employed event-related brain potentials to investigate the effects of semantic similarity on different planning stages during language production. We manipulated semantic similarity by controlling feature overlap within taxonomical hierarchies. In a blocked-cyclic naming task, participants named pictures in repeated cycles, blocked in semantically close, distant, or unrelated conditions. Only closely related items, but not distantly related items, induced semantic blocking effects. In the first presentation cycle, naming was facilitated, and amplitude modulations in the N1 component around 140-180 ms post-stimulus onset predicted this behavioral facilitation. In contrast, in later cycles, naming was delayed, and a negative-going posterior amplitude modulation around 250-350 ms post-stimulus onset predicted this interference. These findings indicate easier object recognition or identification underlying initial facilitation and increased difficulties during lexical selection. The N1 modulation was reduced but persisted in later cycles in which interference dominated, and the posterior negativity was also present in cycle 1 in which facilitation dominated, demonstrating concurrent effects of conceptual priming and lexical interference in all naming cycles. Our assumptions about the functional role these two opposing forces play in producing semantic context effects are further supported by the finding that the joint modulation of these two ERPs on naming latency exclusively emerged when naming closely related, but not unrelated items. The current findings demonstrate that close relations, but not distant taxonomic relations, induce stronger semantic blocking effects, and that temporally overlapping electrophysiological signatures reflect a trade-off between facilitatory priming and interfering lexical competition.To explore the influence of changes in human lifestyle and the living environment caused by nonpharmaceutical interventions in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on allergic diseases, the present study enrolled children who came to the Children’s Hospital of Zhejiang University for allergen detection between January 2019 and December 2020. By comparing the positive rates and levels of various allergen-specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, the influence of changes in human lifestyle and the living environment caused by prevention and control measures in COVID-19 on allergic diseases was evaluated. In 2019, 41 648 allergic children went to the hospital, but in 2020, due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the number decreased to 24 714. In 2020, the number of allergy visits was the lowest in February and gradually increased. There were 45 879 children with total IgE > 17.5 IU/ml in 2 years, accounting for 69.13% of the total samples, of which the proportion was 68.52% (28 allergic reactions.

    Multiple studies have been conducted to compare the safety of proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) and H2-receptor antagonists (H2RAs) as acid-suppressive treatment in kidney transplant recipients with conflicting results. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the risk of adverse effects in kidney transplant patients receiving PPIs compared to those treated with H2RAs.

    A systematic search was performed on the databases from inception to June 2021. The treatment effects were expressed as odds ratio (OR), weighted mean differences (WMD) and their 95% confidence intervals (CI) and pooled by a random-effects model.
