    Rotator cuff repair is a common orthopaedic procedure that provides pain relief for many patients, but unfortunately, an estimated 20% to 70% of repair procedures will fail. Previous research has shown that elongation (ie, retraction) of a repaired tendon is common even in patients with a repair construct that appears intact on magnetic resonance imaging. However, it is unknown how this repair tissue functions under dynamic conditions.

    Data from 9 patients were analyzed for this study. During surgery, a 3.1-mm tantalum bead was sutured to the supraspinatus tendon, medial to the repair site. Glenohumeral kinematics were assessed at 1 week (static) and 3 months (static and during scapular-plane abduction) after surgery using a biplanar videoradiographic system. The 3-dimensional position of the bead was calculated relative to the tendon’s insertion on the humerus (istatic retraction and maximum dynamic elongation) appeared to be a common and significant finding at 3 months after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. Pyroptosis is a recently found and proven type of programmed cell death that is characterized by a reliance on inflammatory caspases and the release of a large number of proinflammatory chemicals. Pyroptosis differs from other cell death mechanisms such as apoptosis and necrosis in terms of morphological traits, incidence, and regulatory mechanism. Pyroptosis is widely involved in the occurrence and development of SCI. In-depth research on pyroptosis will help researchers better understand its involvement in the onset, progression, and prognosis of SCI, as well as provide new therapeutic prevention and treatment options. Herein, we investigated the role of AMPK-mediated activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome in the neuroprotection of MET-regulated pyroptosis. We found that MET treatment reduced NLRP3 inflammasome activation by activating phosphorylated AMPK and reduced proinflammatory cytokine (IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α) release. At the same time, MET improved motor function recovery in rats after SCI by reducing motor neuron loss in the anterior horn of the spinal cord. Taken together, our study confirmed that MET inhibits neuronal pyroptosis after SCI via the AMPK/NLRP3 signaling pathway, which is mostly dependent on the AMPK pathway increase, hence decreasing NLRP3 inflammasome activation.

    Instagram and Facebook were searched for public posts from 2018 and 2019 including the search terms „ear tubes,””ear tube surgery,””tympanostomy,” and „myringotomy.” Posts were excluded if they were unrelated to pediatric tympanostomy tubes or written in a non-English language. Relevant posts underwent subgroup analysis based on 6 domains media type, perspective, topic, timeframe, popularity, and overall tone.

    Of 1862 public social media posts, the majority (78.2%) were made by the patient’s parents/caregivers and the rest by physicians (6.0%), hospitals (8.2%), and chiropractors (6.1%), with a few posts by the patients themselves (0.4%). The majority (79.3 social media.

    In the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in spring 2020, elective and oncologic surgical cases were cancelled. After adequate safety protocols were established, each subspecialty within otolaryngology faced unique challenges in reengaging patients for surgical scheduling.

    Patients whose otolaryngology surgery was cancelled due to COVID-19 hospital precautions were identified. Rescheduling rates were analyzed by subspecialty. Case completion was determined as the percentage of initially cancelled cases that were completed within 6 months of their original planned dates.

    Of 833 otolaryngology cases scheduled between March 16 and May 29, 2020, a total of 555 (66.63%) were cancelled due to COVID-19 precautions, and 71.17% were rescheduled within 6 months. Cancellation and rescheduling rates per subspeciality were as follows, respectively head and neck surgery, 42.79% and 88.76%; sleep surgery, 83.92% and 64.07%; rhinology and skull base, 72.67% and 64.80%; facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, 80.00% and 74.17%; otology and neurotology, 71.05% and 66.67%; and laryngology, 68.57% and 79.17%. The case completion rates were as follows head and neck surgery, 95.2%; laryngology, 85.7%; facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, 79.3%; otology and neurotology, 76.3%; rhinology and skull base, 74.4%; and sleep surgery, 69.9%.

Thus, this study evaluated the vasorelaxant effect of ethanolic extracts of brown, green, red, and black rice bran and investigated its underlying vasorelaxant mechanism. Among the four rice bran extracts (RBEs) examined, the red rice bran extract (RRBE) had a strong endothelium-dependent vasorelaxant effect, which was markedly prevented by N-ω-nitro-L-arginine [endothelial nitric otion in coronary artery rings, which involved the Src/PI3K pathway that activates eNOS. Therefore, we propose that RRBE may serve as natural sources of functional phytochemicals that improve cardiovascular diseases associated with disturbed NO production and endothelial dysfunction.Introduction Most type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with chronic conditions require multiple medications to achieve and maintain good glycemic control. Objective This study assessed medication burden, regimen complexity, and adherence among T2DM patients and evaluate its association with glycemic control. Method We analyzed data of 2,696 T2DM patients at public health clinics in Malaysia from January 2018 until May 2019. Medication burden was based on medication count, regimen complexity was measured using the validated Medication Regimen Complexity Index (MRCI) tool, and adherence was measured using proportion of days covered (PDC) formula. Logistic regression models were used to compute unadjusted and adjusted odds ratio (aOR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) for association between the medication parameters and glycemic control (HbA1c ≤ 7.0%) over a 90-day period. Results The cohort mean age was 60.4 years old (±10.8) and 62.9% were female. Overall, the average medication count was 4.8 with MRCI score of 15.1. Mean adherence score (PDC) was 90%. High medication count and MRCI scores were associated with lower odds of achieving good glycemic control (aOR 0.88; 95% CI 0.82, 0.94 and aOR 0.89; 95% CI 0.87, 0.92, respectively) while inverse association was observed between adherence and HbA1c level (aOR 2.7, 95% CI 1.66, 5.19). Similar findings were observed for diabetes-specific measures. Conclusions High medication count, high regimen complexity, and low medication adherence were associated with poor glycemic control over the 3-month follow-up period. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying statin-induced cancer cell death and autophagy are not clearly defined. In the present study, we showed that pitavastatin could increase apoptosis in a FOXO3a-dependent manner in the oral cancer cell line, SCC15, and the colon cancer cell line, SW480, along with the blockade of autophagy flux. The inhibition of autophagy by silencing the LC3B gene reduced apoptosis, while blockade of autophagy flux using its inhibitor, Bafilomycin A1, further induced apoptosis upon pitavastatin treatment, which suggested that autophagy flux blockage was the cause of apoptosis by pitavastatin. Further, the FOXO3a protein accumulated due to the blockade of autophagy flux which in turn was associated with the induction of ER stress by transcriptional upregulation of PERK-CHOP pathway, subsequently causing apoptosis due to pitavastatin treatment. Taken together, pitavastatin-mediated blockade of autophagy flux caused an accumulation of FOXO3a protein, thereby leading to the induction of PERK, ultimately causing CHOP-mediated apoptosis in cancer cells.
