Planning a safe path for flexible catheters is one of the major challenges of endovascular catheterization. State-of-the-art methods rarely consider the catheter curvature constraint and reduced computational time of path planning which guarantees the possibility to re-plan the path during the actual operation.
In this manuscript, we propose a fast two-phase path planning approach under the robot curvature constraint. Firstly, the vascular structure is extracted and represented by vascular centerlines and corresponding vascular radii. Then, the path is searched along the vascular centerline using breadth first search (BFS) strategy and locally optimized via the genetic algorithm (GA) to satisfy the robot curvature constraint. This approach (BFS-GA) is able to respect the robot curvature constraint while keeping it close to the centerlines as much as possible. We can also reduce the optimization search space and perform parallel optimization to shorten the computational time.
We demonstrate the method’s high efficiency in two-dimensional and three-dimensional space scenarios. The results showed the planner’s ability to satisfy the robot curvature constraint while keeping low computational time cost compared with sampling-based methods. Path replanning in femoral arteries can reach an updating frequency at [Formula see text]Hz.
The presented work is suited for surgical procedures demanding satisfying curvature constraints while optimizing specified criteria. It is also applicable for curvature constrained robots in narrow passages.

It is also applicable for curvature constrained robots in narrow passages.Non-palpable, volumetric splenomegaly at diagnosis was evaluated using computed tomography in patients with essential thrombocythemia (ET) and prefibrotic/early primary myelofibrosis (pre-PMF) based on 2016 World Health Organization guidelines. Each patient’s spleen volume was adjusted for their age and body surface area. The degree of splenomegaly was classified as no, borderline volumetric, overt volumetric, or palpable splenomegaly. Seventy-six patients with ET (median age, 62.5 years) and 19 patients with pre-PMF (median age, 65 years) were followed up for a median of 2.4 years (range 0.1-17.6 years) and 4.2 years (range 0.2-19.6 years), respectively. Spleen volume was significantly greater in pre-PMF patients than in ET patients (377.9 ± 92.2 cm3 vs. 224.9 ± 115.2 cm3, P less then 0.001). No, borderline volumetric, overt volumetric, and palpable splenomegaly were found in 42 (55.3%), 24 (31.6%), 10 (13.2%), and 0 (0%) patients with ET, respectively, and in 0 (0%), 8 (42.1%), 19 (52.6%), and 1 (5.2%) patient with pre-PMF, respectively (P less then 0.001). Volumetric splenomegaly did not affect thrombosis-free survival in patients with ET or those with pre-PMF. This study indicates that all patients with pre-PMF present with splenomegaly, whereas half of the patients with ET have a normal-sized spleen at diagnosis.Hypertensive disorders in pregnancy pose a huge challenge to the socioeconomic stability of a community; being a major cause of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality during delivery. Although there have been recent improvements in management strategies, still, the diversified nature of the underlying pathogenesis undermines their effectiveness. Generally, these disorders are categorized into two; hypertensive disorders of pregnancy with proteinuria (pre-eclampsia and eclampsia) and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy without proteinuria (gestational and chronic hypertension). Each of these conditions may present with unique characteristics that have interwoven symptoms. However, the tendency of occurrence heightens in the presence of any pre-existing life-threatening condition(s), environmental, and/or other genetic factors. Investigations into the cerebrovascular system demonstrate changes in the histoarchitectural organization of neurons, the proliferation of glial cells with an associated increase in inflammatory cytokines. These are oxidative stress indicators which impose a deteriorating impact on the structures that form the neurovascular unit and the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Such a pathologic state distorts the homeostatic supply of blood into the brain, and enhances the permeability of toxins/pathogens through a process called hyperperfusion at the BBB. Furthermore, a notable aspect of the pathogenesis of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy is endothelial dysfunction aggravated when signaling of the vasoprotective molecule, nitric oxide, amongst other neurotransmitter regulatory activities are impaired. This review aims to discuss the alterations in cerebrovascular regulation that determine the incidence of hypertension in pregnancy.Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX) is a lipid storage disease caused by deficiency of sterol 27-hydroxylase enzyme encoded by CYP27A1 gene. This multicenter, cross-sectional descriptive study aimed to document clinical characteristics of CTX patients of different ages, clinical presentations of early-diagnosed patients, and responses to short-term chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) treatment. Seven of 11 CTX patients were diagnosed in childhood. Three patients (27%) had neonatal cholestasis, seven (63%) patients had a history of frequent watery defecation started in infantile period, and eight (72.7%) patients had juvenile cataract. Four patients in the adult age group had pyramidal signs and parkinsonism symptoms. The mean Mignarri score at diagnosis was significantly lower in the pediatric patients (267.8 ± 51.4) than in the adult patients (450.0 ± 64.0, p = 0.001). No significant difference was determined between pediatric patients and adult patients regarding plasma cholestanol concentration at diagnosis (p = 0.482). The frequency of defecation decreased with treatment in six children, who had diarrhea at admission. Compared to pretreatment values, patients’ body weight and standardized body mass index significantly increased at the 12th month of treatment. In conclusion, Mignarri scores are lower in the pediatric patients than in adult patients since the most determinative signs of the CTX disease are not apparent yet in the childhood. The disease is frequently overlooked in routine practice as the disease presents itself with different clinical combinations both in adults and in children. CTX is potentially a treatable disease; thereby, enhanced awareness is critically important for early diagnosis particularly in children.Neurodegeneration-associated dementia disorders (NADDs), namely Alzheimer and Parkinson diseases, are developed by a significant portion of the elderly population globally. Extensive research has provided critical insights into the molecular basis of the pathological advancements of these diseases, but an efficient curative therapy seems elusive. A common attribute of NADDs is neuroinflammation due to a chronic inflammatory response within the central nervous system (CNS), which is primarily modulated by microglia. This response within the CNS is positively regulated by cytokines, chemokines, secondary messengers or cyclic nucleotides, and free radicals. Microglia mediated immune activation is regulated by a positive feedback loop in NADDs. The present review focuses on evaluating the crosstalk between inflammatory mediators and microglia, which aggravates both the clinical progression and extent of NADDs by forming a persistent chronic inflammatory milieu within the CNS. We also discuss the role of the human gut microbiota and its effect on NADDs as well as the suitability of targeting toll-like receptors for an immunotherapeutic intervention targeting the deflation of an inflamed milieu within the CNS.Metabolism reprogramming is one of the hallmarks of cancer cells, especially glucose metabolism, to promote their proliferation, metastasis and drug resistance. Cancer cells tend to depend on glycolysis for glucose utilization rather than oxidative phosphorylation, which is called the Warburg effect. Genome instability of oncogenes and tumor-inhibiting factors is the culprits for this anomalous glycolytic fueling, which results in dysregulating metabolism-related enzymes and metabolic signaling pathways. It has been extensively demonstrated that protein-coding genes are involved in this process; therefore, glycolysis-targeted therapy has been widely used in anti-tumor combined therapy via small molecular inhibitors of key enzymes and regulatory molecular. The long non-coding RNA, which is a large class of regulatory RNA with longer than 200 nucleotides, is the novel and significant regulator of various biological processes, including metabolic reprogramming. RNA interference and synthetic antisense oligonucleotide for RNA reduction have developed rapidly these years, which presents potent anti-tumor effects both in vitro and in vivo. However, lncRNA-based glycolysis-targeted cancer therapy, as the highly specific and less toxic approach, is still under the preclinical phase. In this review, we highlight the role of lncRNA in glucose metabolism and dissect the feasibility and limitations of this clinical development, which may provide potential targets for cancer therapy.Purpose This study investigates the impact of an intensive case management program on sick leave days, permanent work incapacity levels and treatment costs for severe vocational injuries set up by the French National Insurance Fund in five health insurance districts. Methods The method employed relies on a four-step matching procedure combining Coarsened Exact Matching and Propensity Score Matching, based on an original administrative dataset. Average Treatment effects on the Treated were estimated using a parametric model with a large set of covariates. Results After one-year follow-up, workers in the treatment group had higher sickness absence rates, with 22 extra days, and the program led to 2.7 (95% CI 2.3-3.1) times more diagnoses of permanent work incapacity in the treatment group. With an estimated yearly operational cost of 2,722 € per treated worker, the average total extra treatment cost was 4,569 € for treated workers, which corresponds to a cost increase of 29.2% for the insurance fund. Conclusions The higher costs found for the treatment group are mainly due to longer sick leave duration for the moderate severity group, implying higher cash transfers in the form of one-off indemnities. Even though workers in the treated group have more diagnoses of permanent work incapacity, the difference of severity between groups is small. Our results on longer sick leave duration are partly to be explained by interactions between the case managers and the occupational physicians that encouraged patients to stay longer off-work for better recovery, despite the higher costs that this represented for the insurance fund and the well-documented adverse side effects of longer periods off-work.Social factors (e.g. housing, food security, etc.) contribute significantly to health. The purpose of this study is to describe social risk and social exclusion factors in one of the largest Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) populations in the U.S. and their association with health outcomes. We conducted a cross-sectional study with a community convenience sample of 412 adults who self-identify as MENA. Weighted, adjusted linear regression models were used to examine relationships of interest. Prevalent social risks included transportation barriers to healthcare (33%), food insecurity (33%), and financial strain (25%). In adjusted models, perception of being treated unfairly (Estimate (SE) 0.08 (0.04), p less then 0.05) and fear of deportation (0.26 (0.06), p less then 0.001) were associated with more social risk factors. More social risk factors were associated with worse self-reported health (0.09 (0.03), p less then 0.01), more chronic conditions (0.11 (0.03), p less then 0.004), and more mental health symptoms (0.34 (0.14) p less then 0.01).Social risk is high among those perceiving unfairness and fear deportation. Those with more social risk factors reported worse health. These findings have implications for social needs screening and referral models that can best serve U.S. MENA sub-populations.The objective of the present study was to characterize socioeconomic inequalities in the patterns of professionally applied topical fluoride (PATF) in Mexican schoolchildren. A cross-sectional study was carried out on 3029 Mexican schoolchildren. A questionnaire was administered to caregivers to determine sociodemographic, socioeconomic, and behavioral variables. The dependent variable was prevalence of PATF, coded as 0 = without PATF and 1 = with PATF, at any point in life, and separately, in the previous year. Various indicators of socioeconomic position were included. Logistic regression was used in the final multivariate analysis. The prevalence of PATF any time in life was 33.8%, while in the previous year it was 11.4%. The variables associated (p less then 0.05) with PATF any time in life were child’s older age (OR = 1.12), older age when tooth brushing started (OR = 1.57), higher brushing frequency (OR = 1.60), having health insurance [public (OR = 1.61) or private (OR = 1.45)], if family owned a car (OR = 1.29) and better socioeconomic position [parents’ education, second (OR = 1.48) and third (OR = 1.75) tertile]. For PATF in the previous year, the variables associated were older age of mother (OR = 1.03), older age when tooth brushing started (OR = 1.99), higher brushing frequency (OR = 1.68), having health insurance [public (OR = 1.62)] and better socioeconomic position (parents’ education, second (OR = 1.57) and third (OR = 1.97) tertile). This study suggests the existence of socioeconomic inequalities in PATF, manifested through socioeconomic position, access to health insurance and household having a car. Clinical development of orelabrutinib for various indications is underway in the USA and China. This article summarizes the milestones in the development of orelabrutinib leading to this first approval.
Forceful needle-nerve contact and high subepineural pressures and are recognised causes of nerve damage. Pressure and force measurements are necessary to inform the mechanisms of nerve injury, build virtual simulator environments and provide operator feedback during simulation training. However, the range of pressures and forces encountered at tissue layers during targeted needle insertion and fluid injection are not known.
We built a needle that recorded in-line pressure during fluid injection and continuously measured force at the needle tip. Two anaesthetists were randomised to insert a 21g block needle at 48 nerve sites on both sides of 3 soft embalmed Thiel cadavers. Our objective was to measure pressure and force during the course of targeted nerve injection at epimysium, in perineural tissue, on epineurium and during subepineural injection. At each interface, we infused a 0.5ml bolus of embalming solution at a rate of 12mlmin
and recorded the pressure response. Force was measured continuously in ion pressures, anaesthetists exerted excessive force on nerves.Patients with lower extremity peripheral artery disease (PAD) are at increased risk of major adverse limb events (MALE). The efficacy and safety of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in this context is evolving. To assess the efficacy and safety of DOAC combined with aspirin compared to the use of antiplatelet agents in patients with symptomatic lower extremity (LE) PAD. We systematically searched PubMed, Embase and Cochrane databases, in September 2020, for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that were designed to investigate the effect of DOACs in the treatment of PAD. A random-effects meta-analysis was performed targeting ischemic and bleeding events. Three randomized clinical trials were included, providing a total of 9533 patients, and 744 pooled MALE events (316 in DOAC plus aspirin and 428 in control). Only data on rivaroxaban and edoxaban were available. The use of DOAC plus aspirin in PAD patients significantly decreased the rate of MALE (pooled OR 0.70 [0.61-0.83], P less then 0.001; I2 = 0%). In terms of safety, there was a significantly higher rate of major bleeding events (pooled OR 1.46 [1.16-1.84], P = 0.001; I2 = 52%). In rivaroxaban-RCTs, the addition of low-dose rivaroxaban to aspirin was still associated with a lower MALE compared to aspirin alone (pooled OR 0.68 [0.53-0.88], P = 0.003; I2 = 28%), but also conferred higher major bleeding rate (pooled OR 1.48 [1.18-1.86], P less then 0.001; I2 = 0%). In conclusion, our pooled data suggests that for patients with symptomatic LE-PAD, the use of DOAC combined with aspirin reduced the risk of major ischemic limb events at the expense of an increased risk of major bleeding.
Based on personal experiences, recommendations for physicians treating patients with multiple myeloma (MM) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are proposed.
(1) Implement strategies to keep the patient in the best possible condition for the longest time, in addition to focusing on ways to avoid financial toxicity; (2) if lenalidomide is unavailable, start treatment with thalidomide and dexamethasone, include, if possible, bortezomib; (3) conduct an outpatient-based autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) in all eligible patients; (4) use thalidomide as post-ASCT maintenance treatment if lenalidomide is unavailable for the standard risk patients; (5) monitor monoclonal proteins with serum protein electrophoresis and free light chain measurements; (6) employ novel drugs in cases of relapsed or refractory disease; and (7) do not forget supportive therapy. The therapeutic recommendations to treat patients with MM are somewhat different for physicians working in LMICs, compared with those treating patients with MM in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).Few studies have been conducted to examine the role shyness plays in friendship selection and influences processes, particularly how befriending shy peers affects individual’s psychological adjustment. To address these gaps, this study investigated the selection, de-selection, same behavior influence effects of shyness in the friendship network in Chinese adolescents using the longitudinal social network analysis. It also explored the possible pathways that transmit indirect influences of friends’ shyness to individual’s psychological maladjustments (i.e., loneliness and depressive symptoms). A sample of adolescents (N = 1254, 48.4% girls, Mage = 13.20 years at Time 1) were followed for three years in middle schools. The results showed that adolescents tended to befriend those who had similar shyness level during T1-T2 interval, but the friendships between shy friends were more likely to terminate during T2-T3 interval. Moreover, adolescents were found to become more similar with their friends in shyness over time. The study also found that friends’ shyness at T1 would influence individual’s loneliness at T3 via 1) increasing friends’ loneliness at T2 or 2) increasing individual’s shyness level at T2. Those two pathways, however, were not found for depressive symptoms. These findings indicate that shyness plays an important role in the friendship formation and dissolution and befriending shy peers may have implications for adolescents’ development of shyness and loneliness.Alpha-synuclein plays a vital role in the pathology of Parkinson’s disease (PD). Spreading of α-synuclein in neighboring cells was believed to contribute to progression in PD. How α-synuclein transmission affects adjacent cells is not full elucidated. Here, we used recombinant α-synuclein to mimic intercellular transmitted α-synuclein in MES23.5 dopaminergic cells, to investigate whether and how it could modulate iron metabolism. The results showed that α-synuclein treatment up-regulated divalent metal transporter 1 (DMT1) and down-regulated iron transporter (FPN), also up-regulated iron regulatory protein 1 (IRP1) protein levels and hepcidin mRNA levels. Endocytosis inhibitor dynasore pretreatment completely abolished and even reversed the upregulation of DMT1 and IRP1 induced by α-synuclein, however, FPN down-regulation was partially blocked by dynasore. Autophagy-inducing agent rapamycin reversed DMT1 up-regulation and FPN down-regulation, and fully blocked the upregulation of IRP1. Elevated hepcidin levels induced by α-synuclein was fully blocked by dynasore pretreatment, however, even higher with rapamycin pretreatment. Alpha-synuclein treatment triggered endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. ER stress inducer thapsigargin induced similar responses elicited by α-synuclein. ER stress inhibitor salubrinal blocked the up-regulation of IRP1 and hepcidin, as well as DMT1 up-regulation and FPN down-regulation, also dramatically abolished cAMP-response elements binding protein phosphorylation induced by α-synuclein. Taken together, these finding indicated that extracellular α-synuclein could regulate cellular iron metabolism, probably mediated by ER stress. It provides novel evidence to elucidate the relationships between transmitted α-synuclein and iron metabolism disturbance in PD.
We set out to determine study objectives of clinical trials which included older patients with the four most common malignancies, to assess the extent to which the inclusion of patient-related outcomes (PROs) has changed over the last fifteen years.
A search of the National Institutes of Health clinical trial registry was performed to identify currently recruiting or completed phase II or III clinical trials started between 2005 and 2020, which addressed chemotherapy or immunotherapy in patients aged > 65 years with the four most common solid malignancies. Trial characteristics and study objectives were extracted from the registry website.
Compared to disease- and treatment-related outcomes, PROs were the least measured outcomes. Of the 1,663 trials, PROs were addressed in only 21% of all trials, in which quality of life as primary objective was found in less than 1% of all trials. Compared to all trials, trials exclusively for older patients addressed more often PROs (respectively, 30% vs 21%, p < 0.001). Over the last fifteen years, there was an incremental trend in the reporting of PROs from 17 to 24% of all trials (p = 0.007).
Despite a slight incremental trend over the past 15 years, PROs appear to be underrepresented in clinical trials which include patients with a solid malignancy. In order to provide physicians and older patients with cancer realistic information about the impact of chemo- or immunotherapy on quality of life or functioning, researchers should strongly consider including PROs in their future clinical trials.

However, the underlying mechanisms through which SA prevents DC in human lens epithelial cells (HLECs) remained unclear. In the present study, we employed single-molecule optics technologies, including transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), laser scanning confocal microscopy (LSCM) and Raman spectroscopy, to monitor the effect of SA on HLECs biomechanics and organelle structure in real-time. TEM suggested that SA improved the ultrastructure of HLECs with regard to nuclear chromatin condensation and reducing mitochondrial swelling and degeneration, which may aid in the maintenance of HLECs integrity in the presence of glucose. AFM revealed a reduced surface roughness and stiffness following SA treatment, suggesting an improved viscoelasticity of HELCs. Raman spectrometry and LSCM further revealed that these changes were related to a modification of cell liquidity and cytoskeletal structure by SA. Taken together, these results provide insights into the effects of SA on the biomechanics of HLECs and further strengthen the evidence for its potential use as a novel therapeutic strategy for DC prevention.
Our results provide insights into the flavonol biosynthesis regulation of M. truncatula. The R2R3-MYB transcription factor MtMYB134 emerged as tool to improve the flavonol biosynthesis. Flavonols are plant specialized metabolites with vital roles in plant development and defense and are known as diet compound beneficial to human health. In leguminous plants, the regulatory proteins involved in flavonol biosynthesis are not well characterized. Using a homology-based approach, three R2R3-MYB transcription factor encoding genes have been identified in the Medicago truncatula reference genome sequence. The gene encoding a protein with highest similarity to known flavonol regulators, MtMYB134, was chosen for further experiments and was characterized as a functional flavonol regulator from M.truncatula. MtMYB134 expression levels are correlated with the expression of MtFLS2, encoding a key enzyme of flavonol biosynthesis, and with flavonol metabolite content. MtMYB134 was shown to activate the promoters of the A.ctional aspect of the identified transcription factor, we developed a sextuple mutant, which is defective in anthocyanin and flavonol biosynthesis. Ectopic expression of MtMYB134 in a multiple myb A. thaliana mutant restored flavonol biosynthesis. Furthermore, overexpression of MtMYB134 in hairy roots of M. truncatula enhanced the biosynthesis of various flavonol derivatives. Taken together, our results provide insight into the understanding of flavonol biosynthesis regulation in M. truncatula and provides MtMYB134 as tool for genetic manipulation to improve flavonol synthesis.In this study, biochar was generated from chicken manure by using a tube furnace under different temperatures (300, 500, and 700 °C), and the treatments were noted as J300, J500, and J700, respectively. In comparison, another type of biochar was prepared under 500 °C with a muffle furnace, and the treatment was noted as JM500. Biochar in treatment group J500 was subsequently modified with HNO3 and NaOH, and the treatments were noted as J500-HNO3 and J500-NaOH, respectively. The sorption efficiencies of naphthalene by the above six types of biochar were evaluated. Characteristic results showed that the surface pores of the biochar were improved with the increase of temperature, and biochar under the treatments J300, J500, J700, and JM500 experienced a high speed of adsorption within 1 h after the naphthalene adsorption started. The adsorption capacity of naphthalene increased with the increase of the initial concentration of naphthalene. Treatment J700 exhibited the largest adsorption capacity since its biochar surface pore structure was more fully developed with a crystal structure formed, and its specific surface area was increased by about 20 times compared to the original chicken manure. After biochar modification using HNO3 and NaOH, the infrared spectrum changed, and the adsorption active sites were increased. The biochar modification by HNO3 had a high naphthalene adsorption efficiency compared to NaOH. The order of adsorption capacity was as follows J500 ≈ JM500 less then J300 less then J500-NaOH less then J500-HNO3 less then J700.A measurement station located in an urban area on the southern slope of the Medvednica Mountain (120 m a.s.l.), close to the Croatian capital Zagreb, provided data for an analysis of the photosmog in the city of Zagreb. Data for the period 2003-2016 obtained from this station and analysed in this work can also be compared with the nearby Puntijarka station (980 m a.s.l.) for which a similar analysis has already been carried out. In Puntijarka station analysis, it has been shown that there is most probably no significant change in ozone concentrations during the observed period. In this study the mean value of the annual ozone volume fractions showed a linear trend of 0.23 ppb yr-1, a growth that is in the worst case scenario among the lowest global prediction, while the seasonal (April-to-September) mean values had a trend of 0.32 ppb yr-1, which is a certain clearly observable growth. The 95-percentile values had trends of 0.009 ppb yr-1 (annual data) and -0.072 ppb yr-1 (seasonal data), respectively. Both of these values show very small changes if any at all. By using FT analysis, with the calculation of uncertainties, we have observed three prominent cycles of 169 ± 4 h (weekly cycle), 24 ± 1 h and 12 ± 1 h (diurnal cycles). Uncertainties were low which strongly indicate that the cycles are present. However, since high concentrations of ozone were observed only sporadically, ozone pollution in the northern part of Zagreb is at the present rather low. A Fourier transformation was used to analyse the data for periodic behaviour, which revealed the existence of diurnal and weekly modulations. Nevertheless, constant monitoring is important and will continue in the future as part of continuous monitoring of the ozone levels in the area.Rapid population growth and industrialization have contributed to a dramatic decline in the supply of freshwater. As a result, desalination is an important choice to solve the global problem of water scarcity. Nevertheless, the hyper-saline by-product, the high capital costs, and the high energy demands currently met by fossil fuels are key obstacles to the widespread adoption of desalination systems. Furthermore, desalination plants powered by fossil fuels have negative environmental impacts due to greenhouse gases (GHGs) emissions. In contrast to fossil fuels, renewable energy is abundant and clean and is therefore a promising alternative for powering desalination plants. This is why the water-energy nexus is a crucial step towards a sustainable future. Therefore, the integration of renewable energy sources (RES) into desalination is very important. The main objective of this review to analyze and evaluate desalination technologies (thermal-based and membrane-based) and RES (solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal, and biomass) that could be combined as an integrated process. Social-economic factors, environmental concerns, current challenges, and future research areas for both desalination and RES are discussed.A traffic noise system involves several subsystems like road traffic subsystem, human subsystem, environment subsystem, traffic network subsystem, and urban prosperity subsystem. The study’s main aim was to develop road traffic noise models using a graph theory approach involving the parameters related to road traffic subsystem. The road traffic subsystem variables selected for the modeling purposes included vehicular speed, traffic volume, carriageway width, number of heavy vehicles, and number of honking events. The interaction of the selected variables considered in the form of permanent noise function is given in the matrix form. Eigenvalues and corresponding eigenvectors are calculated for removing any human judgmental error. The permanent noise function matrix was then updated using the eigenvectors, which was ultimately utilized for obtaining the permanent noise index. Data regarding the selected variables were collected for three months, and the noise parameters included in the study were equivalent noise level (Leq,1h), maximum noise level (L10,1h), and background noise level (L90,1h). A logarithmic transformation was applied to the permanent noise index and linear regression models were developed for Leq,1h , L90,1h , and L10,1h respectively. The models were validated using the data collected from the same locations for nine months. The models were found to provide satisfactory results, although the results were somewhat overestimated. The method can prove beneficial for estimating future noise levels, given the expected changes in values for the independent variables considered in the study.Water pollution has become a worldwide threat as the natural water resources are shrinking day by day. Emergent actions are needed to conserve water stocks to fulfill the sustainable development goals. Herein, we have prepared activated carbon-doped magnetic nanocomposites (AC@CoFe2O4) with environment friendly approach and characterized for FTIR, XRD, SEM, EDS, BET surface area, and pHzpc. AC@CoFe2O4 nanocomposite was applied for the decolorization of toxic food dyes (rhodamine B and tartrazine) from wastewater. Effect of ultrasonic waves, pH, contact time, surfactants, temperature, and analysis of real wastewater systems were studied. Adsorption isotherm, kinetics, and thermodynamics of the experiment were calculated for the present removal process. The effect of ultrasonication shows that the maximum removal percentage for RhB was found to be 92% and for tartrazine, it was found to be 86% at 60 min. Ultrasound-assisted adsorption and degradation revealed good results because of the formation of highly active ·H and ·OH radicals in the liquid through the decomposition of water molecules by the formation of hot spots under ultrasonic waves. Highest decolorization of 69% was obtained for RhB with anionic surfactant SDS and climax decolorization of tartrazine was acquired in case of CTAB as 60.5%. Analysis of real wastewater samples shows that the decolorization of RhB was found to be ~ 91% from well-water and ~ 95% removal of tartrazine was observed from submersible water on AC@CoFe2O4 nanocomposites. The decolorization best fitted (R2 less then 0.988) with Langmuir model and value of Langmuir climax decolorization efficiency (Q0) was found to be 142.68 and 435.72 mg/g for RhB and tartrazine, respectively. Kinetic analysis revealed that adsorption follows pseudo-second-order equation. The dye-loaded AC@CoFe2O4 nanocomposites were recycled by 0.1 M HCl or NaOH and regenerated AC@CoFe2O4 nanocomposites were used up to five rounds with better adsorption efficiency.Environmental finance has gradually become an important tool for solving atmospheric pollution problems. The creation of options based on an atmospheric environmental health index (AEHI) is designed to support a rational pricing of financial products related to the health of the atmospheric environment. To begin with, the improved Ornstein-Uhlenbeck model is established to predict the change in air pollutant concentrations, and then we construct the AEHI by using exposure-response Poisson regression model. In addition, an options pricing method for AEHI is proposed based on Esscher transform theory, and the universal investment strategy for enterprises is formulated to hedge operational risk by using the AEHI option. Finally, we use Beijing city of China, as a case study to demonstrate how to determine the AEHI options prices for two diseases in three age groups, and propose the investment strategy for an insurance enterprise. The AEHI options should therefore be used to compensate for the damage to human health caused by air pollution, and to hedge against the operational risks of related industries.Plastic and straw coverage (PC and SC) are often combined with fungicide application but their influence on fungicide entry into soil and the resulting consequences for soil quality are still unknown. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of PC and SC, combined with fungicide application, on soil residual concentrations of fungicides (fenhexamid, cyprodinil, and fludioxonil), soil fungal biomass, mycotoxin occurrence, and soil organic matter (SOM) decomposition, depending on soil depth (0-10, 10-30, 30-60 cm) and time (1 month prior to fungicide application and respectively 1 week, 5 weeks, and 4 months afterwards). Soil analyses comprised fungicides, fusarium mycotoxins (deoxynivalenol, 15-acetyldeoxynivalenol, nivalenol, and zearalenone), ergosterol, soil microbial carbon and nitrogen, soil organic carbon, dissolved organic carbon, and pH. Fludioxonil and cyprodinil concentrations were higher under SC than under PC 1 week and 5 weeks after fungicide application (up to three times in the topsoil) but no differences were observed anymore after 4 months. Fenhexamid was not detected, presumably because of its fast dissipation in soil. The higher fludioxonil and cyprodinil concentrations under SC strongly reduced the fungal biomass and shifted microbial community towards larger bacterial fraction in the topsoil and enhanced the abundance and concentration of deoxynivalenol and 15-acetyldeoxynivalenol 5 weeks after fungicide application. Independent from the different fungicide concentrations, the decomposition of SOM was temporarily reduced after fungicide application under both coverage types. However, although PC and SC caused different concentrations of fungicide residues in soil, their impact on the investigated soil parameters was minor and transient ( less then 4 months) and hence not critical for soil quality.Heavy metals (HMs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are persistent toxicants in coastal environments. Notably, in comparison to individual metal toxicity, knowledge about the effects of HMs and PAHs mixtures on kelps remains scarce. Accordingly, we performed in vitro experiments to determine the individual and combined effects of Cu, Cd, and PAHs on spore release, settlement, and germination on Macrocystis pyrifera and Lessonia spicata, two key-habitat forming kelp species of the coast of the Valparaíso Region in Chile. This region concentrates highly polluting industries, mainly due to unrestrained mining and fossil-fuel energy production. Single Cu, Cd, and PAHs treatments included concentrations in the ranges 5-200, 0.125-2000, and 0.05-100 μg/L, respectively, and a toxic-free treatment. Cu, Cd, and PAHs concentrations causing 20-50% (IC20, IC50) arrested spore release, settlement, and germination were determined, and the results shown in both species that single Cu, Cd, and PAHs IC20 values were generally lower on spore release than on spore settlement and germination, probably due to the absence of a cell wall in spores compared to later stages. Binary equitoxic IC20s mixture treatments changed from an antagonistic response to another with a greater inhibitory effect on spore release, from hour 1 to 7, whereas in IC50 treatments, the response was always antagonistic. The tertiary IC20 mixture of Cu+Cd+PAHs produced generally an antagonistic effect. Remarkably, all IC20 equitoxic mixture treatments showed a synergistic response on spore settlement in both kelps, suggesting that these toxicants are extremely harmful to kelp population persistence near highly polluted sites.Recognizing the process and identifying the drivers of energy-related CO2 emissions can provide suggestions for designing carbon emission reduction paths, and then promote the further reduction of carbon emission. In this paper, the carbon emissions in China and its subordinate provinces during 2005-2017 are firstly divided into four stages, named S1, S2, S3, and S4. The results show that China has just entered the S3, and it is impossible to reach the peak of energy-related CO2 emissions with steady economic growth before 2030. Then, three-layer LMDI is utilized to explore the drivers of CO2 emissions, and the impact of urbanization which is separated from the population is considered innovatively. The economic development increases CO2 emissions, while the other drivers have diverse effects, which may be positive or negative, on carbon emissions in different regions. Therefore, four emission reduction paths with provincial characteristics should be followed in the future (i) three provinces, namely, Ningxia, Shaanxi, and Xinjiang, should optimize multiple basic objectives in parallel; (ii) four provinces, such as Inner Mongolia and Hainan, should optimize the energy structure; (iii) six provinces, such as Jiangxi and Hunan, should optimize the industry structure; and (iv) the other provinces should develop new clean energy according to regional conditions.Although electrochemical disinfection has been shown to be an effective approach to inactivate bacteria in saline water, the effects of process parameters and reactor design for its application in low-salinity water have not been well understood. In this study, factorial experiments were performed to investigate the direct and confounded effects of applied current (5-20 mA), contact time (2.5-20 min), anode surface area (185-370 cm2), and chloride concentration (50-400 mg L-1) on the disinfection efficiency in fresh water and the secondary effluent of municipal wastewater. An electrochemical disinfection reactor cell with an internal volume of 75 cm3 was designed and fabricated. Residence time distribution analysis showed that the internal mixing of the reactor is similar to that of a dispersed plug-flow reactor. All studied process parameters showed significant effect on the kill efficiency, with the applied current and contact time having the most dominant effect. Although the effect of chloride concentration, which is responsible for electrochemical production of free chlorine in water, is statistically significant, it is not as prominent as those reported for high salinity water. A synergistic effect between chloride concentration and anode surface area was identified, leading to high kill efficiency (99.9%, 3 log kill) at low current density (0.0135 mA cm-2). Response surface modeling results suggested that a scaled-up disinfection reactor can be designed using large anode surface area with long contact time for high chloride water (400 mg L-1) or high current density with short contact time for low chloride water (50 mg L-1). The power requirement of a portable system treating 37.85 m3 day-1 (10,000 gpd) of municipal wastewater was estimated to be 1.9 to 8.3 kW to achieve a 3 log kill, depending on the reactor design.We conducted a nationwide, registry-based study to investigate the importance of 34 potential risk factors for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) diagnosis, hospitalization (with or without intensive care unit [ICU] admission), and subsequent all-cause mortality. The study population comprised all COVID-19 cases confirmed in Sweden by mid-September 2020 (68,575 non-hospitalized, 2494 ICU hospitalized, and 13,589 non-ICU hospitalized) and 434,081 randomly sampled general-population controls. Older age was the strongest risk factor for hospitalization, although the odds of ICU hospitalization decreased after 60-69 years and, after controlling for other risk factors, the odds of non-ICU hospitalization showed no trend after 40-49 years. Residence in a long-term care facility was associated with non-ICU hospitalization. Male sex and the presence of at least one investigated comorbidity or prescription medication were associated with both ICU and non-ICU hospitalization. Three comorbidities associated with both ICU and non-ICU hospitalization were asthma, hypertension, and Down syndrome. History of cancer was not associated with COVID-19 hospitalization, but cancer in the past year was associated with non-ICU hospitalization, after controlling for other risk factors. Cardiovascular disease was weakly associated with non-ICU hospitalization for COVID-19, but not with ICU hospitalization, after adjustment for other risk factors. Excess mortality was observed in both hospitalized and non-hospitalized COVID-19 cases. These results confirm that severe COVID-19 is related to age, sex, and comorbidity in general. The study provides new evidence that hypertension, asthma, Down syndrome, and residence in a long-term care facility are associated with severe COVID-19.How does non-linguistic, visual experience affect language production? A series of experiments addressed this question by examining linguistic and visual preferences for agent positions in transitive action scenarios. In Experiment 1, 30 native German speakers described event scenes where agents were positioned either to the right or to the left of patients. Produced utterances had longer speech onset times for scenes with right- rather than left-positioned agents, suggesting that the visual organization of events can affect sentence production. In Experiment 2 another cohort of 36 native German participants indicated their aesthetic preference for left- or right-positioned agents in mirrored scenes and displayed a preference for scenes with left-positioned agents. In Experiment 3, 37 Arabic native participants performed the same non-verbal task showing the reverse preference. Our findings demonstrate that non-linguistic visual preferences seem to affect sentence production, which in turn may rely on the writing system of a specific language.Avocado (Persea americana Mill.) is a tree native from central and eastern México that belongs to the Lauraceae family. Avocado has three botanical varieties known as Mexican (P. americana var. drymifolia), West Indian (P. americana var. americana), and Guatemalan (P. americana var. guatemalensis). It is an oil-rich fruit appreciated worldwide because of its nutritional value and the content of bioactive molecules. Several avocado molecules show attractive activities of interest in medicine. Avocado fatty acids have beneficial effects on cardiovascular disease risk factors. Besides, this fruit possesses a high content of carotenoids and phenolic compounds with possible antifungal, anti-cancer and antioxidant activities. Moreover, several metabolites have been reported with anti-inflammatory effects. Also, an unsaponifiable fraction of avocado in combination with soybean oil is used for the treatment of osteoarthritis. The Mexican variety is native from México and is characterized by the anise aroma in leaves and by small thin-skinned fruits of rich flavor and excellent quality. However, the study of the bioactive molecules of the fruit has not been addressed in detail. In this work, we achieved a literature review on the inflammatory, immunomodulatory and cytotoxic properties of long-chain fatty acids and derivatives from Mexican avocado seed. Also, the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of the oil extracted from the avocado seed are referred. Finally, the antimicrobial, immunomodulatory, and cytotoxic activities of some antimicrobial peptides expressed in the fruit are reviewed.Violence in an intimate partnership is a form of domestic violence where physical or psychological acts of violence are committed by a partner or spouse against another partner or spouse, and other family members may be victims as well. Its prevalence is worrisome and is not limited to any specific circumstances. It also occurs in Christian families, and research data show that the rate of intimate partner violence in Christian families is no higher or lower compared to the general incidence. That being said, religiosity combined with other factors may contribute to the vulnerability of the victim or the power of the perpetrator. On the other hand, religious values and aspects provide protection and support in preventing violence in Christian families and recovering after violence has occurred. We analysed 18 different studies on intimate partner violence in Christian families using the systematic literature review method, and in this paper, we present findings that indicate which aspects of Christian tradition and practice, in combination with other factors, provide protection and support in preventing violence and helping to recover from it for women who are the victims of violence by their intimate partners.

F-fluoro-L-phenylalanine (FDOPA) uptake may have an association, preferential tumor localization in relation to FDOPA uptake is yet to be investigated in lower-grade gliomas (LGGs). This study aimed to identify differences in the frequency of tumor localization between FDOPA hypometabolic and hypermetabolic LGGs using a probabilistic radiographic atlas.
Fifty-one patients with newly diagnosed LGG (WHO grade II, 29; III, 22; isocitrate dehydrogenase wild-type, 21; mutant 1p19q non-codeleted,16; mutant codeleted, 14) who underwent FDOPA positron emission tomography (PET) were retrospectively selected. Semiautomated tumor segmentation on FLAIR was performed. Patients with LGGs were separated into two groups (FDOPA hypometabolic and hypermetabolic LGGs) according to the normalized maximum standardized uptake value of FDOPA PET (a threshold of the uptake in the striatum) within the segmented regions. Spatial normalization procedures to build a 3D MRI-based atlas using each segmented region were validated by an analysis of differential involvement statistical mapping.
Superimposition of regions of interest showed a high number of hypometabolic LGGs localized in the frontal lobe, while a high number of hypermetabolic LGGs was localized in the insula, putamen, and temporal lobe. The statistical mapping revealed that hypometabolic LGGs occurred more frequently in the superior frontal gyrus (close to the supplementary motor area), while hypermetabolic LGGs occurred more frequently in the insula.

We aimed to assess whether home collection and increased time to semen processing are associated with altered sperm parameters, fertilization rates (FR), day 5 usable quality blastocyst development rates (D5-UQBR), or pregnancy rates (PR) in patients undergoing IVF/ICSI.
This was a retrospective cohort study of patients undergoing IVF/ICSI before the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic („clinic” collection, n = 119) and after COVID-19 („home” collection, n = 125) at an academic fertility practice. Home collection occurred within 2 h of semen processing. Patient sperm parameters, FR (#2PN/MII), D5-UQBR (# transferable and freezable quality blastocysts/# 2PN), and PR in fresh transfer cycles were compared between clinic and home groups with t-tests. The association between time to processing on outcomes was assessed with regression modeling, controlling for potential confounders.
