Spontaneous magnetic alignment is the simplest known directional response to the geomagnetic field that animals perform. Magnetic alignment is not a goal directed response and its relevance in the context of orientation and navigation has received little attention. Migratory songbirds, long-standing model organisms for studying magnetosensation, have recently been reported to align their body with the geomagnetic field. To explore whether the magnetic alignment behaviour in songbirds is involved in the underlying mechanism for compass calibration, which have been suggested to occur near to sunset, we studied juvenile Eurasian reed warblers (Acrocephalus scirpaceus) captured at stopover during their first autumn migration. We kept one group of birds in local daylight conditions and an experimental group under a 2 h delayed sunset. We used an ad hoc machine learning algorithm to track the birds’ body alignment over a 2-week period. Our results show that magnetic body alignment occurs prior to sunset, but shifts to a more northeast-southwest alignment afterwards. Our findings support the hypothesis that body alignment could be associated with how directional celestial and magnetic cues are integrated in the compass of migratory birds.
Granulocyte colony-stimulating factors (G-CSF) are commonly given to limit chemotherapy-induced neutropenia, but, in case of weekly chemotherapy such as eribulin, their administration schedules remain empirical.
This pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) study was conducted to establish the effect of different G-CSF regimens on neutropenia’s incidence for patients treated by eribulin, to propose an optimal G-CSF dosing schedule.
A population PK/PD model was developed to describe absolute neutrophil counts’ (ANC) time course in 87 cancer patients receiving eribulin. The structural model considered ANC dynamics, neutropenic effect of eribulin and stimulating effect of G-CSF. Final model estimates were used to calculate neutropenia’s incidence following different G-CSF dosing schedules for 1000 virtual subjects.
The final model successfully described most of the ANC time course for all patients. Simulations showed that a single G-CSF administration 48h after each eribulin injection reduced the risk of severe neutropenia from 29.7 to 5.2%. Five days of G-CSF only after the second eribulin injection or no G-CSF administration induces similar incidence of neutropenia.
Simulations showed a single G-CSF administration 48h after the end of each eribulin injection seems to be the optimal schedule to reduce eribulin-induced neutropenia. However, the new administration scheme should be tested in real life to evaluate its pertinence.

However, little is known about the association between onsite cardiac surgical support and long-term outcomes of PCI, particularly among emergent and complex cases. We investigated whether the presence or absence of cardiovascular surgery affects the long-term prognosis after PCI, emergent and complex elective cases. The SHINANO 5-year registry, a prospective, observational, and multicenter cohort study registry in Nagano, Japan, consecutively included 1665 patients who underwent PCI between August 2012 and July 2013. The procedures were performed at 11 hospitals with onsite cardiac surgery facilities [onsite surgery (+) group; n = 1257] and 8 hospitals without onsite cardiac surgery facilities [onsite surgery (-) group; n = 408]. The primary endpoint was all-cause mortality and the secondary endpoint was major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events [MACCE all-cause death, Q-wave myocardial infarction, non-fatal stroke, and target lesion revascularization]. The onsite surgery group (+) had a lower rate of emergent PCI and ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (40.8% vs. 51.7%, p less then 0.01 and 24.9% vs. 39.2%, p less then 0.01, respectively), and a higher prevalence of hemodialysis and history of peripheral artery disease (7.6% vs. 2.45%, p less then 0.01 and 12.1% vs. 6.9%, p less then 0.01, respectively). However, the Kaplan-Meier analysis showed no difference in the 5-year mortality rate (16.4% vs. 15.2%, p = 0.421) and MACCE incidence (31.6% vs. 28.9%, p = 0.354) between the groups. Also, there were no differences in the mortality rate and incidence of MACCE among emergent cases of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction and complex elective cases who underwent PCI. Long-term outcomes of PCI appear to be comparable between institutions with and without onsite cardiac surgical facilities.
Total hip arthroplasty (THA) in patients with hip-dislocation dysplasia remains challenging. This study aims to evaluate whether these patients may benefit from robotic-assisted techniques.
We reviewed 135 THAs (108 conventional THAs and 27 robotic-assisted THAs) for Crowe type III or IV from January 2017 to August 2019 in our institution. Robotic-assisted THAs were matched with conventional THAs at a 11 ratio (27 hips each group) using propensity score matching. The accuracy of cup positioning and clinical outcomes were compared between groups.
The inclination of the cup for conventional THAs and robotic THAs was 42.1 ± 5.7 and 41.3 ± 4.6 (p = 0.574), respectively. The anteversion of the cup for conventional THAs was significantly greater than that of robotic THAs (29.5 ± 8.1 and 18.0 ± 4.6; p < 0.001), respectively. The ratio of the acetabular cup in the Lewinnek safe zone was 37% (10/27) in conventional THAs and 96.3% (26/27) in robotic THAs (p < 0.001). Robotic THAs did not achieve better leg length discrepancy than that of conventional THAs (- 0.4 ± 10.9mm vs. 0.4 ± 8.8mm, p = 0.774). There was no difference in Harris Hip Score and WOMAC Osteoarthritis index between groups at the 2-year follow-up. No dislocation occurred in all cases at the final follow-up.
Robotic-assisted THA for patients with high dislocation improves the accuracy of the implantation of the acetabular component with respect to safe zone.

A consistent relationship between CMT and DDH has been established. However, whether the presence of CMT has effect on clinical outcomes of DDH remains unanswered. This study aimed to evaluate clinical features and management of DDH in patients with CMT.
We reviewed the medical records of 54 patients (91 hips) simultaneously diagnosed with DDH and CMT and included 54 patients (97 hips) with only DDH by random number method as the control group. Clinical and examination outcomes were recorded and compared, respectively.
The mean follow-up was 18.1 ± 14.5months (range, 2 to 72 mo). In the DDH and CMT group, the age of initial treatment was lower (100.8 ± 92.3 vs. 229.0 ± 157.4 d, P < 0.001), and the rate of male significantly increased (42.6% vs. 11.1%, P < 0.001). Before treatment, development degree of hip was better than that of the DDH group. Therefore, patients with CMT had approximately 14 times greater odds of conservative treatment success than children in the DDH group (OR, 13.84; 95% CI, 3.16 to 60.60).
We concluded that CMT was not the risk factor for the failure of treatment. On the contrary, the identification of CMT may be beneficial to early discovery and treatment of DDH when we remain vigilant to perform physical exam and screen imaging of DDH for patients with CMT.

An increasing number of studies have shown an association between migraine and cardiovascular disease, in particular cardio- and cerebro-vascular events.
Three electronic databases (PubMed, Embase and Scopus) were searched from inception to May 22, 2021 for prospective cohort studies evaluating the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke and cardiovascular mortality in migraine patients. A random effects meta-analysis model was used to summarize the included studies.
A total of 18 prospective cohort studies were included consisting of 370,050 migraine patients and 1,387,539 controls. Migraine was associated with myocardial infarction (hazard ratio, 1.36; 95% CI, 1.23-1.51; p = < 0.001), unspecified stroke (hazard ratio, 1.30; 95% CI, 1.07-1.60; p = 0.01), ischemic stroke (hazard ratio, 1.35; 95% CI, 1.03-1.78; p = 0.03) and hemorrhagic stroke (hazard ratio, 1.43; 95% CI, 1.07-1.92; p = 0.02). Subgroup analysis of migraine with aura found a further increase in risk of myocardial infarction and both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, as well as improved substantial statistical heterogeneity. Migraine with aura was also associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular mortality (hazard ratio, 1.27; 95% CI, 1.14-1.42; p = < 0.001).
Migraine, especially migraine with aura, is associated with myocardial infarction and stroke. Migraine with aura increases the risk of overall cardiovascular mortality.

To present an overview of studies using serial coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) as a tool for finding both quantitative (changes) and qualitative plaque characteristics as well as epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) volume changes as predictors of plaque progression and/or major adverse cardiac events (MACE) and outline the challenges and advantages of using a serial non-invasive imaging approach for assessing cardiovascular prognosis.
A literature search was performed in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library and Emcare. All observational cohort studies were assessed for quality using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS). The NOS score was then converted into Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) standards good, fair and poor.
A total of 36 articles were analyzed for this review, 3 of which were meta-analyses and one was a technical paper. Quantitative baseline plaque features seem to be more predictive of MACE and/or plaque progression as compared to qualitative plaque feahnical details remain to be refined.
• Use of (serial) CCTA can identify plaque characteristics and plaque changes as well as changes in EAT volume that are predictive of plaque progression and/or major adverse events (MACE) at follow-up. • Studies utilizing serial CCTA revealed that mainly quantitative baseline plaque features and quantitative plaque changes are predictive of MACE and/or plaque progression contrary to qualitative plaque features. • Ultimately, serial CCTA is a promising technique for the evaluation of cardiovascular prognosis, yet technical details remain to be refined.
