    This study highlights a promising approach to promote healthy communities and health equity by empowering neighborhood residents using participatory methodologies.The Pehuenche spiny-chest frog Alsodes pehuenche is an endemic species from the Andes of Argentina and Chile and is considered to be critically endangered. Its population has been declining over the past 10 years, principally as a consequence of the paving of a road that crosses the streams the frog inhabits. Until recently, exotic fish species had not been recorded in these streams. This study documents the presence of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mikyss) in one of these streams and predation on the endangered frog species.

    Magnetic muscle stimulation (MMS) is a relatively new energy-based technology that provides a non-invasive option for body contouring through stimulation and toning of underlying skeletal muscles. This study was conducted to examine the safety, efficacy, and body satisfaction scores of MMS using a CoolToneTM prototype for the aesthetic improvement of abdominal and buttock contour.

    This was a prospective, non-comparative, non-randomized, 12-week, multicenter study. Male and female participants aged 22-65 years received 4 MMS treatment sessions to the abdomen and/or buttocks. Body Satisfaction Questionnaire (BSQ) scores for abdomen and/or buttocks were assessed at baseline, immediately post final treatment, at 4 weeks (primary endpoint), and 12 weeks post final treatment. Subject-rated Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (SGAIS) was assessed at 4 weeks post final treatment (secondary endpoint), and 12 weeks post final treatment. Additional efficacy assessment included abdominal circumference obtained by 3D i the abdomen and/or buttocks with MMS was well-tolerated and demonstrated significant improvement in aesthetic appearance through the 12-week post final treatment study duration. As a stand-alone treatment, MMS expands the range of options for individualized treatment planning for patients seeking abdominal and/or gluteal muscle toning. © 2020 The Authors.     Enlarged pores are one of the most common causes of skin surface irregularities. Existing studies supporting the benefit of lasers and energy-based devices (EBD) for this condition are limited, with a short duration of follow-up period. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and adverse effects of ErYAG laser for treatment of enlarged pores in dark-skinned patients.

    Nineteen subjects (aged 26-47 years) with skin phototypes III (21.1%) and IV (78.9%) and enlarged pores were treated with 4 monthly sessions of ErbiumYAG laser. Objective (ultraviolet light A video camera) and subjective (clinical evaluation by two blinded dermatologists) assessments were obtained at baseline, 1-month after each treatment and at 1, 3, and 6 months after the final treatment.

    The weighted mean score of quartile grading scales showed significant improvement in pore size from baseline starting at 1-month after the third treatment and continued until 3 months after the fourth (final) treatment (P < 0.001). However, the improvement dropped significantly at 6 months after the final treatment. Objective measurements of the improvements in skin surface smoothness and wrinkles corresponded with the physician raters’ clinical evaluation.

Med. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals LLC.It is possible to enhance topical drug delivery by pretreatment of the skin with ablative fractional lasers (AFLs). However, the parameters to use for a given AFL to achieve the desired depth of ablation or the desired therapeutic or cosmetic outcome are hard to predict. This leaves open the real possibility of overapplication or underapplication of laser energy to the skin. In this study, we developed a numerical model consisting of a Monte Carlo radiative transfer (MCRT) code coupled to a heat transfer and tissue damage algorithm. The simulation is designed to predict the depth effects of AFL on the skin, verified with in vitro experiments in porcine skin via optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging. Ex vivo porcine skin is irradiated with increasing energies (50-400 mJ/pixel) from a CO2 AFL. The depth of microscopic treatment zones is measured and compared with our numerical model. The data from the OCT images and MCRT model complement each other well. Nonablative thermal effects on surrounding tissue are also discussed. This model, therefore, provides an initial step toward a predictive determination of the effects of AFL on the skin. Lasers Surg. Med. © 2020 The Authors.     The aim of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of screencast training videos for users from different professional backgrounds on the basis of the quality and quantity of virtual 3D implant planning as evaluated using assessment software.

    Participants in the study were dental students (n = 21), dental technicians (n = 16), or practicing dentists (n = 16) with no knowledge of the implant planning software CoDiagnostiX or any experience in virtual implant planning. They were randomly divided into 2 groups The participants of the control group were presented training videos on CBCT (cone beam computed tomography) and implant planning, additional to the traditional software manual. The participants of the experimental group received, additionally, a training video on the planning software, produced in the form of a screencast. Then 3 implant planning procedures were performed by all participants. The quality of implant planning was assessed using the Treatment Evaluation Tool software, and time for planning was measured.

    Paired sample tests showed significantly shorter planning times for the experimental groups consisting of dentists and students (P < 0.001). A comparison of the results of the individual groups reveals that students and dental technicians who had not received prior screencast training were significantly less precise in their planning (P < 0.001).

    This study suggests a promising outcome for the future use of screencasts in the acquisition of software skills for dental software. There is a need for tools for objective self-assessment of effectiveness in software training.

Angiogenesis is one of such critical events in bone healing, and we previously reported the stimulatory effect of mechanical loading in vessel remodeling. Focusing on type H vessels and exosomal miR-214-3p, this study examined the mechanism of loading-driven angiogenesis. MiRNA sequencing and qRT-PCR revealed that miR-214-3p was increased in the exosomes of the bone-losing ovariectomized (OVX) mice, while it was significantly decreased by knee loading. Furthermore, compared to the OVX group, exosomes, derived from the loading group, promoted the angiogenesis of endothelial cells. In contrast, exosomes, which were transfected with miR-214-3p, decreased the angiogenic potential. Notably, knee loading significantly improved the microvascular volume, type H vessel formation, and bone mineral density and contents, as well as BV/TV, Tb.Th, Tb.N, and Tb.Sp. In cell cultures, the overexpression of miR-214-3p in endothelial cells reduced the tube formation and cell migration. Collectively, this study demonstrates that knee loading promotes angiogenesis by enhancing the formation of type H vessels and downregulating exosomal miR-214-3p.Little is known about the reproductive ecology of the whale shark Rhincodon typus. On 15 March 2020, a free-swimming neonate whale shark was found in the shallow, coastal waters of Donsol, Philippines. The total length of the male shark was 60 cm, falling within the species known size-at-birth. This is the third occurrence of neonatal whale sharks reported in the area, and coupled with the occurrence of juveniles and adults, and anecdotal mating and precopulatory behaviour reported herein, the importance of the site for this endangered species is highlighted.Reported here are the relationships among morphological (i.e., body condition) and biochemical (i.e., plasma concentrations of triglycerides, cholesterol, free fatty acids, and ketone bodies and ketone body ratios) parameters related to energy storage and use, as well as the variation of such parameters, for 107 free-ranging nurse sharks Ginglymostoma cirratum sampled off South Florida. Immature G. cirratum exhibited a higher variance in body condition, plasma free fatty acid concentrations and ketone body ratios compared to adults. Mature female G. cirratum had significantly higher body condition than mature males, driven by a seasonal increase in mature female body condition during the wet season. Mature male G. cirratum showed a decrease in the ketone body β-hydroxybutyric acid during the dry season. Taken together, this study provides a baseline assessment of body condition and internal physiological state for a data-poor marine species and demonstrates significant ontogenetic, sexual and seasonal variation in G. cirratum energetic state.     Mental health services in the United States public schools are an important component of the academic success of a student. Not all schools, however, have the necessary personnel and funding to offer such services.

    In this paper, we provide an analysis of data collected from schools in 3 geographic locations. Comparisons were made of the availability of personnel to assess and treat mental health disorders in students enrolled in city, urban, and suburban schools, with over 10,000 schools represented. The data were part of the 2015 to 2016 School Survey on Crime and Safety.

    Accessibility of mental health practitioners and reasons that limited efforts of a school to provide the services were assessed. Statistically significant differences were identified by school location, demonstrating that those in rural communities were most challenged providing diagnostic assessment and treatment for students by school mental health professionals, for several reasons.

    Increased state and county funding to support mental health practitioners in public high schools is one suggestion to address mental health disorders in students.
