Adolescents who were more likely to be influenced elicited neurological up-regulation whereas adolescents who were less likely to be socially influenced elicited neurological down-regulation during risk-taking. These findings highlight patterns of how adolescents process information while a salient influencer takes risks, as well as salient neural pathways that are dependent on similarity factors associated with social learning theory. The incidence of atherosclerotic cardiovsacular disease (ASCVC) has increased in the developed countries. Dyslipidemia is a primary major risk factor for ASCVD and LDL lowering is one of the main objectives. Although treatment goals for dyslipidemias should be personalized in every patient, statins are cost-effective in primary and secondary prevention of ASCVD. New treatments with higher power and greater decreases in LDL, PSCK9 inhibitors, have made a new breakthrough in ASCVD treatment. The 2019 Guidelines for de Management of Dyslipidaemias Lipid Modification to reduce Cardiovascular Risk (European Society of Cardiology/European Atherosclerosis Society) with the level of evidence and the strength of the recommendations can facilitate the best decisions and benefits to our patients in clinical practice.
To understand parental stressors and identify potential stress-mitigators during interfacility transfer of critically ill children.
Descriptive qualitative multi-case study using semi-structured interviews. This study involved caregivers of patients admitted to the Paediatric Critical Care Unit at Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre transported from outlying hospitals. Study participants were recruited through purposeful sampling. Interviews were recorded, transcribed verbatim and manually de-identified. Coding was performed by two independent coders using a standard method of content analysis to identify common themes.
Themes were identified and reached saturation after twelve interviews were completed. Children were admitted primarily from Northwestern and Southwestern Ontario, at distances ranging from 36 to 1146km. Sixty-seven percent were transported by ground and 33% were transported by air ambulance. We identified stressors (patient pain and discomfort on transport, separation anxily ill children. We recommend that stakeholders at referral centres, transport services and accepting facilities examine their current standards regarding transport processes to ensure relevant mitigators are incorporated into their programs to improve the transport experience for critically ill children and their families.Bioassay-guided fractionation of the EtOH extract from the flowers of Aquilaria sinensis (Lour.) Spreng. (Thymelaeaceae) led to the isolation of a new cucurbitane-type triterpenoid, aquilarolide A (1), along with five known compounds (2-6). The structure of 1 was elucidated by extensive 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments and mass spectrometry (MS) data and theoretical calculations of its electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra. Aquilarolide A, cucurbitacin E (3), cucurbitacin B (4), and 7-hydroxy-6-methoxy-2-[2-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethyl]-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one (6) showed significant cytotoxicity against human lung adenocarcinoma SPC-A-1, human lung squamous cell carcinoma NCI-H520, human lung adenocarcinoma A549, and paclitaxel-resistant A549 (A549/Taxol) cell lines. All four active compounds, with IC50 values ranging from 0.002 to 0.91 μM, had better inhibitory activities against A549/Taxol cells than paclitaxel (IC50 = 1.80 μM). Among them, cucurbitacin E (IC50 = 0.002 μM) is the most active. Further studies are needed to evaluate their in vivo antitumor activities and to clarify their mechanisms. Background While tetracycline antibiotics are commonly prescribed in practice, the risk of drug-induced liver injury (DILI) remains controversial. Aim To evaluate the association of DILI with tetracycline antibiotics. Method All DILI cases of tetracycline antibiotics as primary suspected drugs were extracted from the US Food and Drug Administration adverse event reporting system (FAERS). The outcomes included severe DILI, hepatocellular injury, cholestatic injury, and liver failure. Disproportionality analyses were conducted by estimating the reporting odds ratio (ROR) and the information component (IC). Results A total of 1,435 liver injury cases associated with tetracycline antibiotics were identified. The DILI signal was detected in tigecycline, minocycline, and doxycycline. The RORs and the 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) of tigecycline, minocycline, and doxycycline were (ROR 5.85, 95% CI 4.96-6.91), (ROR 6.4, 95% CI 5.76-7.11), and (ROR 2.07, 95% CI 1.86-2.31), respectively. Compared to minocycline (ROR 5.5, 95% CI 4.94-6.12; IC 2.35, 95% CI 1.98-2.68) and doxycycline (ROR 1.91, 95% CI 1.71-2.12; IC 0.91, 95% CI 0.55-1.26), tigecycline showed a stronger association with hepatocellular injury (ROR 7.11, 95% CI 6.13-8.23; IC 2.68, 95% CI 2.16-3.13). Tigecycline also showed a stronger association with cholestatic injury (ROR 12.16, 95% CI 10.13-14.61; IC 3.51, 95% CI 2.79-4) than minocycline (ROR 3.23, 95% CI 2.59-4.04; IC 1.67, 95% CI 0.9-2.37) or doxycycline (ROR 2.86, 95% CI 2.47-3.31; IC 1.5, 95% CI 1-1.97). Tigecycline (ROR 6.56, 95% CI 4.57-9.41; IC 2.69, 95% CI 1.28-3.64) and minocycline (ROR 4.22, 95% CI 3.14-5.66; IC 2.06, 95% CI 1-2.93) showed a significant association with liver failure. Conclusion The data mining of FAERS suggested an association between DILI and tigecycline, minocycline, and doxycycline.
Mental health issues such as depression and anxiety are often underdiagnosed and undertreated. Medications are a primary method of managing mental health problems, and pharmacists therefore have a vital role in supporting patients and providing them with information about the safety and efficacy of mental health medications. However, the potential role of pharmacists in managing mental health issues in Jordan has not been well established.
This study aimed to assess Jordanian pharmacists’ attitudes and actual practices related to the provision of mental health services.
This was an exploratory cross-sectional study that used a self-report questionnaire among a convenience sample of 347 pharmacists in Amman, the capital of Jordan.
The participating pharmacists had positive attitudes towards providing care for patients with mental health problems. However, their actual practices did not resonate with their enthusiasm, particularly in terms of the long-term follow-up of disease symptoms and medication side effects and adherence. The participating pharmacists showed an eagerness to collaborate with their colleagues, but their level of actual cooperation was lower than desired. The most reported barrier to providing care for patients with mental health problems was the lack of education on mental health issues (71.5%), followed by the lack of privacy in pharmacy settings (53.9%).
To be effectively involved in the provision of care to mental health patients, pharmacists should receive adequate education/training related to mental health issues, and pharmacies should be redesigned to provide private areas for patient counseling.

Sepsis is a systemic process with multiple inflammatory responses and organ injuries, particularly in the damage of the kidney. Recently, numerous studies suggest that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in sepsis-related kidney injury. This study aimed to investigate the functional role and mechanism of lncRNA nuclear paraspeckle assembly transcript 1 (NEAT1) in sepsis-related kidney injury.
Cell model of kidney injury was constructed in human kidney 2 (HK-2) cells with the treatment of lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The expression of NEAT1 was measured by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). Cell viability was examined using CCK-8 assay. Flow cytometry was performed to detect cell apoptosis, and apoptosis-related proteins were quantified by western blot. The release of proinflammatory cytokines was assessed by ELISA. Oxidative stress was assessed by the levels of SOD and MDA using kits. The putative relationship between miR-330-5p and NEAT1 or FOXO3 was confirmed using dual-luciferase reporter assay, RIP assay and pull-down assay.
The expression of NEAT1 was increased in LPS-treated HK-2 cells. LPS exposure promoted apoptotic rate, inflammatory responses and oxidative stress in HK-2 cells, which were largely ameliorated by NEAT1 knockdown. MiR-330-5p was verified as a target of NEAT1, and miR-330-5p inhibition reversed the effects of NEAT1 knockdown in LPS-treated HK-2 cells. Moreover, FOXO3 was a target of miR-330-5p, and miR-330-5p restoration-blocked cell apoptosis, inflammation and oxidative stress in LPS-treated HK-2 cells were recovered by FOXO3 overexpression.
NEAT1 downregulation meliorated LPS-induced HK-2 cell injuries partly by regulating the miR-330-5p/FOXO3 pathway.

An association between ABO blood groups and SARS-CoV-2 infection as well as the severity of COVID-19 has been suggested relatively early during the pandemic and gained enormously high public interest. It was postulated that blood group A predisposes to a higher risk of infection as well as to a much higher risk of severe respiratory disease and that people with blood group O are less frequently and less severely affected by the disease. However, as to the severity of COVID-19, a thorough summary of the existing literature does not support these assumptions in general. Accordingly, at this time, there is no reason to suppose that knowledge of a patient’s ABO phenotype should directly influence therapeutical decisions in any way. On the other hand, there are many data available supporting an association between the ABO blood groups and the risk of contracting SARS-CoV-2. To explain this association, several interactions between the virus and the host cell membrane have been proposed which will be discussed here.Gold nanotriangles (AuNTs) functionalized with dithiolated oligonucleotides have been employed to develop an amplification-free electrochemical biosensor for SARS-CoV-2 in patient samples. Gold nanotriangles, prepared through a seed-mediated growth method and exhaustively characterized by different techniques, serve as an improved electrochemical platform and for DNA probe immobilization. Azure A is used as an electrochemical indicator of the hybridization event. The biosensor detects either single stranded DNA or RNA sequences of SARS-CoV-2 of different lengths, with a low detection limit of 22.2 fM. In addition, it allows to detect point mutations in SARS-CoV-2 genome with the aim to detect more infective SARS-CoV-2 variants such as Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Omicron. Results obtained with the biosensor in nasopharyngeal swab samples from COVID-19 patients show the possibility to clearly discriminate between non-infected and infected patient samples as well as patient samples with different viral load. Furthermore, the results correlate well with those obtained by the gold standard technique RT-qPCR, with the advantage of avoiding the amplification process and the need of sophisticated equipment.
